Merchandising is a key brand builder that taps into customers’ love for Starbucks in an enduring way. We are responsible for the development and promotion of non-food items, primarily serveware, but incl. apparel, brewing, and lifestyle items. We are P&L owners and brand builders that sit within the broader marketing organization. Our work is multi-channel (Company-Owned Stores, Licensed Stores, Flagship), Multi-brand (Starbucks, Starbucks Reserve) and Multi-disciplinary (Brand, Business).

As the Merchandise Category Team Lead / Merchandise Group Manager, you’ll use your keen strategic and portfolio management skills to manage and lead a team to define the future of merchandise. The ideal candidate is experienced in building a merchandise portfolio assortment from concept to launch in-store with ongoing P&L responsibility. This candidate also possesses a fundamental understanding of manufacturing and product development in serveware, tabletop, home furnishings, or relevant categories. As a Merchandise Category Team Lead / Merchandise Group Manager, you will…
Lead a team and partner with our internal and external stakeholders to co-create dynamic and sophisticated Merchandise portfolio for the next 2-3 years Develop a clear strategy across hundreds of merchandise SKUs and multiple categories, creating a positive impact for customers, partners and the business, while improving clarity for key stakeholders Drive the merchandise collab calendar as part of the overall assortment strategy Bring a keen curiosity and demonstrated aptitude around measuring sales and financial impact of the evergreen and seasonal assortment, as well as key initiatives and product segments Co-create flexible business models to improve speed to market from concept to on-shelf while driving topline sales and profitability Manage the day-to-day work of your team (3-5 direct reports) and unlock the potential of your team members through coaching and supporting them as they chart their career Create operational strategies that drive business outcomes by using your knowledge of the retail industry and your ability to leverage and drive customer and business insights Build the organizational capabilities that put our strategies into action by developing and executing clear workplans, fostering best practices, collaborating with cross-functional teams on product launches and measuring resultsWe’d love to hear from people with:
A breadth and depth of merchandise assortment experience: Strong demonstrated experience and interest in the retail industry A fundamental understanding of manufacturing and product development in serveware, tabletop, home furnishings, or relevant categories Demonstrated experience partnering on exclusive or collaborated merchandise products with vendors and/or designers Portfolio management: Demonstrated experience in concepting and creating a portfolio of merchandise across multiple merchandise segments and product categories Analytics and Data-Driven Insights: Strong quantitative skills and an ability to articulate insights from data; Able to create a P&L, understand business drivers and financial analysis Proactively Identify New Opportunities: Strategic mindset and the ability to sift through complexity to find new business opportunities Leadership: Adept at presenting information, providing feedback, confronting issues, and communicating across all levels of the organization and within the team that you lead Nimble: Ability to move quickly to drive from insights and information to decisions in a fast-paced environment
QUALIFICATIONS:

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity. At Starbucks, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at the high end of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
