Job Description

Chemist Group Leader responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Applies GMP/GLP in all areas of responsibility, as appropriateApplies the highest quality standard in all areas of responsibilityDemonstrates and promotes the company visionDemonstrates strong client service skills, teamwork, and collaborationProactively plans and multitasks to maximize productivityMeets all quality and productivity metrics and demonstrates strong teamwork and collaborationRegular attendance and punctualityEnsure that the quality policy program is understood, implemented, and maintained at all levels of the organization; identify, prevent, or correct any departures from the quality systemPerform work for both routine and non-routine work as specified by separate and applicable technical job description for individualDevelop and implement operational improvementsSupervise others in performing client’s service requirementsCoach, train, and develop others within the group with respect to their personal development and effective implementation of operational improvementsCoordinate workflow and perform daily monitoring to meet TATConduct semiannual performance reviews, interview applicants, keep training records up to date for assigned employees, perform succession planning in preparation for growthConfront and address problems, concerns, and performance issuesCoach and develop individual and team to maximize performanceFoster motivation and moraleMonitor and approve employees’ time worked through time-entry systemSupport and promote company policies and proceduresExpand self-awareness and develop leadership skills as defined; attend applicable leadership training based on identified needsPerform and/or assign other duties as requested to ensure smooth operation of departmentPerform all functions in support of and in compliance with all state and federal employment regulationsConducts all activities in a safe and efficient mannerLead team, schedule and train employeesEnsure adherence to Quality System and efficiency standards in laboratory operationsCoordinate workflow and ensure enough coverage and performance to meet turnaround timesFoster motivation and teamworkOversee lab for preparation of samples for tobacco smoke analysis using rotary and linear smoking machines, and FSC lab for regulatory compliance testingWork closely with other labs leaders to ensure appropriate scheduling of samples for analysisParticipate in lab testing activities as neededDocument test results in notebooks; write SOP’s, protocols and reportsReview data, data notebooks and reportsPerform instrument calibration, instrument troubleshooting, recognize errors, identify root causes, apply process improvement; maintain excellent working knowledge of smoking machine operationCommunicate effectively with client staff membersPerforms other duties as assigned

 

QualificationsAt least 2 years laboratory or quality control experienceBachelor’s degree in science or related discipline, or equivalent directly-related experienceExperience in the tobacco industryExperience in GMP/GLP and or ISO compliance laboratory environmentStrong leadership, initiative, and teambuilding skillsStrong computer, client service, scientific, and organizational skillsExcellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detailAbility to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive attitudeAbility to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies
