The Position

This position supports the establishment of a world class Global Packaging Development organization by applying technical leadership and expertise in the development, qualification, and deployment of new packaging systems for small molecule, parenteral, gene therapy and combination products. The success of this position requires effective collaborations and trusted relationships with Pharmaceutical Development, External Manufacturing, Marketing, Supply Chain, Packaging Operations, Regulatory, etc.

The Group Leader will lead a diverse group of individual contributors in packaging development. In addition to coaching and people management responsibilities, this position ensures that functional expertise continues to flourish and develop in response to future business needs. A passion for people management and the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional and interdisciplinary environment are required.  The Group Leader is someone with strategic vision, people leadership capabilities, and a willingness to support day-to-day operations as needed. In addition to people management, the Group Leader will lead projects of strategic importance. He/she champions self-initiated projects and justifies project goals and outcomes to senior management. Decisions are based on corporate rather than functional area priorities, always putting the patient's needs first.

The opportunity:

You will lead, manage, and coach a team of packaging engineers to develop innovative, best-in-class packaging solutions for the global Roche network.

You will perform regular check-ins on career, connections, capabilities, and contributions.

You will contribute to an accurate resource management process to support resource planning.

You will provide technical guidance and coaching to team members, supporting a culture of advice-based decision-making and enabling informed decisions in collaboration with various governance bodies

You will collaborate successfully with stakeholders, including Product & Device Development MSAT, Distribution Technology, CDMO, Procurement, Quality, and Packaging Operations.

You will actively support a culture of knowledge sharing and make presentations at national and international meetings to drive the industry forward

You will actively contribute to the Device and Packaging Community. Support team spirit, team alignment, share responsibility, and share risks in the team beyond the function. 

Who you are:

You have a Bachelor’s degree or higher in materials science, mechanical, chemical, packaging engineering, or a similar field.

You have 8-10 years of experience in packaging development lifecycle activities in the Pharma, Medical Device, Food, or Cosmetic industry.

You have experience in project management and/or matrix leadership, and your excellent verbal and written communication skills enable you to navigate complex situations and to communicate effectively on all levels of the organization

You are proficient in English, with German as an additional asset, and are willing to travel approximately 10-20%.

You possess strong project management skills, technical expertise in packaging test methods, legislation, regulatory and industry standards, and excellent documentation practices.

You have leadership experience in people management and coaching, strategic leadership in a matrixed organization, and the ability to operate effectively in situations of broad ambiguity.
