Job TitleGroundskeeperJob Description SummaryA Groundskeeper for a college campus is responsible for maintaining the aesthetic appeal, safety, and functionality of the university’s outdoor spaces throughout all seasons. This role typically involves year-round grounds maintenance, including landscaping, turf care, waste removal, and emergency response to weather events.Job DescriptionEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLandscaping and Turf Management: Mow, edge, and fertilize lawns; plant and maintain flowers, trees, and shrubs; prune trees, hedges, and shrubs to ensure healthy growth.Debris Removal: Police campus grounds daily to remove litter, branches, and trash; empty waste receptacles and maintain clean walkways, parking lots, and loading docks.Equipment Operation and Maintenance: Safely operate and perform routine maintenance on powered grounds equipment, including lawnmowers (riding/push), tractors, blowers, chain saws, hedge trimmers, and edgers.Seasonal Maintenance: Remove snow and ice from walkways, parking lots, and building entrances using shovels, snow blowers, or tractor-mounted equipment; apply salt or chemical ice melters.Event Support: Assist with setup, breakdown, and cleanup for university events, including moving tables, chairs, and other equipment.Safety and Inspection: Monitor grounds for potential hazards (e.g., damaged trees, uneven pavement) and report them to supervisors; apply herbicides and pesticides to control weeds and pests.Additional Tasks: Perform minor repairs to grounds fixtures (fences, benches) and assist with special landscaping projects. Required Qualifications and SkillsEducation: High school diploma or GED equivalent is typically required.Experience: 1–2 years of experience in landscaping or grounds maintenance is preferred, often required for "Level II" positions.Licensure: Valid driver’s license is required to operate university vehicles. A Pesticide Applicator’s License (or ability to obtain one) is frequently required or preferred.Physical Stamina: Ability to perform heavy manual labor, including lifting up to 50–75 lbs regularly, bending, walking, and standing for long periods.Technical Skills: Ability to read and follow instructions for chemical application (pesticides, fertilizers) and equipment operation.Work EnvironmentOutdoors: Work is primarily performed outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme cold, heat, rain, and snow.Essential Personnel: Groundskeepers are often considered "essential" or "emergency" personnel, requiring them to report to work during inclement weather for snow removal, even if the university is closed.Schedule: May require early mornings, weekends, and overtime based on seasonal demands.

The company will not pay less than minimum wage for this role.
The compensation for the position is: $15.73 - $18.50
