Job Title: Ground System Technician
Job Description

The successful applicant will be involved with many aspects of the installation, testing, and maintenance of satellite ground station antennas in outdoor, datacenter, and lab settings. This role involves mechanical, electrical, RF, optical, and copper cable and harness/metal fabrication, equipment setup, repair, and maintenance of ground system hardware and equipment.

ResponsibilitiesConfigure, operate and maintain satellite ground station antennas and subsystems.Perform real-time remote and onsite troubleshooting and maintenance for ground system malfunctions and quickly return mission-critical systems to service.Interface with external partners (private and government) to install and maintain gateway ground communication systems.Acquire proper inventory parts and equipment needed for repair or replacement of defective components.Conduct project planning, cost analysis, and vendor comparisons.Collaborate with all staff members and stakeholders in the development and use of proper procedures in support of all layer 1 infrastructure.Assist in vendor scheduling, installation, and subcontracting activities on facility system infrastructure.Maintain documentation of job status, job change revisions, material flow, and other project and maintenance records.Assist in job walks and in determining needs for new installations and redesigns.Ensure all components and materials are clean and serviceable.Monitor and maintain a reasonable inventory of replacement hardware, general use materials, and tools.Essential SkillsSystems engineering, requirements management, and test requirements.Experience in configuring, operating, and maintaining satellite ground station antennas and subsystems.5+ years of work-related experience in building and troubleshooting ground network infrastructure.Experience designing and constructing IT racks (UPS, PDUs, cable management, servers, network devices).Experience as a mechanic or technician and experience in basic construction techniques and the use of power tools, hand tools, and calibrated equipment.5+ years of operations experience with spacecraft, ground stations, RF, IT/networks, or other communication systems.5+ years of rack build and maintenance experience in datacenter settings.Knowledge of network standards and configuration (TCP/IP, SNMP, serial communications).Knowledge of computer skills: MS Office, Visio, and Web applications.Experience in the space, aviation, military, telecommunication, or high-reliability operating environment.Experience with low voltage AC & DC power distribution.Ability to read and understand basic wiring schematics and construction blueprints.Additional Skills & QualificationsMeticulous attention to detail, standards, and documentation, inventory of consumable parts.Communication skills for relaying data (verbally and in-writing) between other employees and customers.Ability to work effectively in a team environment.Ability to rapidly change roles/responsibilities while working in a high-paced, challenging work environment.Ability to work independently with little or no supervision and in ambiguous settings.Availability for long hours and weekends, as the schedule varies depending on site operational needs; flexibility is required.Availability for occasional travel, as required.Work Environment

The role involves working onsite in Northridge, CA. The candidate will be part of a team focused on payloads development for low orbiting satellites. The work environment is dynamic and may require long hours and weekend work based on operational needs. Flexibility and occasional travel are also required.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
