Duties and Responsibilities Customer Service & Engagement
Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a strong emphasis on fast, friendly service.
Assists customers by making product suggestions and engaging in suggestive selling.
Utilizes telephone, in‑store intercom announcements, and one‑on‑one interactions to support sales.
Answers and responds to incoming calls professionally; resolves customer complaints and escalates to the Store Director as appropriate.
Store Leadership & Operational Oversight
Responsible for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director.
Plans daily operations and monitors production processes to ensure adherence to company procedures and profitability targets.
Ensures department standards are followed and maintained across all grocery functions.
Monitors employee productivity and evaluates overall performance.
Schedules employees to ensure adequate coverage and service levels.
Possesses specific working knowledge of duties assigned to all department employees, including Opening/Closing functions, Dairy, and Frozen.
Staff Management, Training & Development
Schedules, supervises, trains, and assigns duties to department employees.
Trains employees in store policies, recordkeeping procedures, and sales techniques.
Identifies and trains employees with high potential for advancement.
Conducts pre‑employment interviews and participates in transfers, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
Has working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
Ensures proper code‑dating procedures are enforced for all department products.
Merchandising, Displays & Store Conditions
Builds grocery displays; rotates stock; discards outdated or spoiled product.
Ensures work areas and department spaces are clean, safe, and well maintained.
Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays.
Coordinates grocery sales promotions and ensures accurate, appealing product presentation.
Ensures merchandise is correctly priced, properly displayed, and shelves are organized and maintained.
Inventory Management & Ordering
Prepares sales and inventory reports; participates in physical inventory every six months.
Controls inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness.
Stocks and rotates product according to division standards.
Orders grocery merchandise and maintains correct inventory levels.
Supervises reclamation processes and ensures orderly, in‑stock conditions in the backroom and all Grocery Department areas.
Controls shrink and maintains cost discipline.
Product Handling, Equipment & Safety
Implements correct product preparation and handling techniques.
Ensures adherence to temperature standards, storage guidelines, and safety procedures.
Operates equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines.
Maintains compliance with all workplace safety practices and department requirements.
