Job Description:

The Grant Manager is responsible for the strategic management of their assigned portfolio. This role ensures alignment between program quality and impact, financial accountability, and donor expectations through effective coordination with World Vision Canada (WVC) teams, Field Offices (FOs), and partners.

They will lead the planning, implementation, and monitoring of projects, providing technical guidance across relevant sectors including Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) to ensure data-driven decision-making and program excellence.

In collaboration with WVC’s Impact Value Stream and Products team, the Grant Manager utilizes impact data to drive learning and continuous improvement. They lead MEAL responsibilities for assigned grants, including establishing M&E frameworks, guiding FO MEAL teams, tracking outcomes, analyzing data, and ensuring timely and accurate reporting to donors. The role also supports accountability and learning through stakeholder engagement, documentation of best practices, and feedback mechanisms.


The Grant Manager is supported by Program Excellence & Impact Delivery functional leads, technical specialists, and finance teams, with tools such as Jira and agile coaching, and reports to a designated People Leader.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Grant Management

Manage projects to ensure quality execution, delivery of impact, risk management and fulfillment of donor promise/contract agreement.Provide management oversight to projects to ensure delivery of results and reports on time and budget while meeting compliance standards.Establish reporting processes, communicate project results, and incorporate learnings to optimize grant implementation.Track project progress against objectives and intended results.Coordinate and participate in all key grant deliverables, including but not limited to start-up workshops, partner agreements, reports, work plans, annual reviews, evaluations, and project closure activities.Work collaboratively to address challenges and adjust project plans as needed.Use knowledge management strategies to share project achievements and knowledge through partnership meetings, academic forums, print & digital communications and donor engagement opportunities, as appropriate.Coordinate the provision of WVC technical support in project technical areasIn close collaboration with the Grant Finance Officer and WVC legal team, prepare and negotiate contract and all needed amendments with the donor.In close collaboration with Program finance, monitor grant project finances, expenditures, cash flow, recovery of overheads, and financial risks and ensure the project is funded on time to ensure effective and efficient grant implementation.

Relationship Management and Prepositioning

Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with key donor representatives, partners, and Field Offices to support the successful execution of projects/grants.Lead on prepositioning for follow-on funding from donors within the current portfolio, where relevant.Provide support to Business Development Managers and Segment Leads in the concept note and proposal development for follow-on funding (eg. design input, document review)In close collaboration with the WVC legal team, prepare and negotiate contract and all needed agreements and contracts with project partners and implementing offices.

Compliance and Risk Management

Maintain a clear understanding of WVC processes and key donor requirementsEnsure that all appropriate donor formats are available to FOs and Partners and staff have a clear understanding of donor requirements/expectations throughout the award cycleEnsure all partners and sub-award agreements undergo legal review, and work with relevant staff to ensure relevant donor requirements are understood by implementing partners (including capacity building).Ensure that all project-related risk and due diligence assessments are completed and remain up to date, including safeguarding

Key Job Qualifications:

University Degree in a field related to international or community/social development, including business development.5-7 years of project management experience applied to institutional donor-funded grants and commercial contracts.Experience in using Results-Based Management approaches and developing Monitoring & Evaluation systems.Demonstrated experience managing remote teams to implement development projects; experience in liaising with academic and/or research partners.Understanding and experience working with major and public donors.Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.Detail-oriented with the ability to work with project documents and provide quality feedback.Demonstrated ability to work cross-organizationally and cross-culturally to ensure alignment and realization of strategic goals.Demonstrated ability to take the initiative with confidence and sound judgment while managing several moving parts simultaneously.Fluency in French is preferred.Ability to travel internationally at least once per year, including potentially to high-risk environments.
