Responsibilities
This graduate internship is a full-time position Summer-Fall 2026 (May or June through December) on site in Rochester, Minnesota.

The Division of Engineering designs and implements innovative solutions for a wide variety of priorities at Mayo Clinic. We seek a highly qualified graduate student in engineering or a quality related field to assist our quality engineer with tasks such as: maintaining our current quality management system (QMS), writing QMS documents for patient-matched 3D printed titanium implants, design verification and validation activities, process validation, supplier qualification and acceptance testing.
The primary purpose of the Graduate Quality Engineer Internship is to provide a graduate engineering student with relevant engineering experiences. One or more mentors will be assigned to the intern to provide instruction and guidance and to assess performance. The intern is responsible for learning the procedures and processes of the Division of Engineering and the assigned work unit. In addition, the intern will be given selected engineering work assignments to reinforce the learning experience and to provide benefit to the work unit. The engineering assignments may include gathering user needs, documenting requirements and specifications, performing design verification and design validation activities, troubleshooting, and participating in design reviews, and maintaining QMS compliance with ISO 13485 All assignments are within the context of the Division of Engineering Quality Management System (including safety risk management) and are performed in a multi-disciplinary development environment. The intern will be responsible for completing all internship-related assignments and reports for both Mayo Clinic and the participating educational institution (if applicable).
Qualifications
The incumbent must have received a bachelor of science in engineering, business administration, management information systems, or other technology-related degree from an accredited college or university and be enrolled in or intending to enroll in a graduate degree program.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and time management skills. They will have interest in medical device development. They will have interest/exposure to areas of device safety, quality management, and FDA medical device regulation.
The candidate must be able to work independently. They should be able to discuss past successes in an environment where work was ambiguous and day-to-day tasks not always well-defined.
