The Government Affairs Partner will support the government affairs team and report to the Director of Government Affairs. You will serve as a registered lobbyist in various states where PPG operates as well as in Washington, D.C. as needed. This includes both direct and indirect lobbying on certain policy issues that are critical to the company. This position will work closely with trade associations and other membership organizations the company supports, at the local and state levels. A focus will be on maintaining effective bipartisan relationships with elected leaders in the United States, at all levels of government with a strong focus on local and state governments where PPG operates and employs.
You will also oversee the day-to-day responsibilities of the PPG Political Action Committee (PAC). This includes maintaining the internal PPG PAC website and managing the third-party vendor that provides the website. Responsibilities include updating the website to reflect real-time contributions, political updates as needed, planning and preparing for the two PPG PAC meetings of the PPG PAC Executive Committee, providing new ideas to encourage membership growth of the PPG PAC, and maintaining a healthy PPG PAC budget. You will manage government affairs compliance for lobbying and for the PPG PAC, including timely submittal of the PPG PAC filings with the FEC, and lobbying disclosure reports at the state and federal levels of government.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and advocate policy positions on issues important to the company at the local and state level of government.
Understand complex policy issues on matters important to the company and articulate the company's position in a clear and concise manner to elected leaders.
Build coalitions of support on policy issues when available. This includes partnering with our key stakeholders both internally and externally. You will collaborate with business units and corporate functions to address the government affairs needs of PPG.
Identify opportunities for business growth through economic development incentives when the company is considering any capital spend.
Leverage trade associations on key issues important to the company and participate on subcommittees of associations when available.
Coordinate with Government Affairs Director on internal message materials and external engagements; Provide weekly updates on all matters related to policy and PPG PAC matters.
Organize and facilitate plant tours, forums, town halls, etc. as needed.
Support and represent PPG at events for elected officials when the PPG PAC is supportive.
Monitor and report on month-to-month actions of the PPG PAC.
Create presentations when necessary for GA items and PPG PAC related materials.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in public affairs, government relations/public policy, marketing or related business discipline.
3+ years of experience working in the government; government relations; external relations; or other related discipline in a corporate setting.
Experience lobbying legislation at the state level, along with experience organizing or operating a PAC.
An in-depth knowledge of the government affairs, the public policy and political process, and a broad understanding of manufacturing and legislative priorities that impact manufacturing.
A strong understanding of the legislative process and all legal and ethical requirements for lobbying; Ability to engage and influence elected officials.
Experience with campaign fundraising would be advantageous.
Technical proficiency in Microsoft Suite and strong writing skills with a passion for research on complex policy issues.
Must exhibit trust and a high standard/practice of business ethics.
Travel up to 50% may be required.
