GM/HBC Manager – Duties & Responsibilities Customer Service & Store Operations
Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a focus on fast, friendly service.
Assist customers with product suggestions and engage in suggestive selling techniques (telephone, PA announcements, one‑on‑one interactions).
Address and resolve customer concerns; escalate to Store Director when needed.
Act as the Manager‑on‑Duty in the Store Director’s absence.
Support overall store operations while ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures.
Department Leadership & Supervision
Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to GM/HBC department employees.
Ensure adequate staffing and service levels at all times.
Monitor productivity, evaluate performance, and provide coaching as needed.
Train employees on store policies, sales processes, and recordkeeping practices.
Identify high‑potential employees and support development for advancement opportunities.
Maintain knowledge of all department roles, including opening and closing responsibilities.
Merchandising, Displays & Standards
Plan daily GM operations and ensure production processes follow company guidelines.
Build and maintain GM/HBC displays; rotate products and remove outdated items.
Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays.
Ensure department cleanliness, organization, and adherence to company standards.
Enforce proper code dating and product rotation for all department merchandise.
Inventory Management & Ordering
Control inventory to maintain proper stock levels, product quality, and freshness.
Stock and rotate product according to division directives.
Order general merchandise in alignment with inventory needs.
Oversee processing of reclamation and maintain clean, organized back‑room conditions.
Complete sales and inventory reports; conduct physical inventory every 6 months.
Operate ordering systems, computer software, and electronic devices for product ordering.
Receiving & Product Handling
Perform receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying invoices, checking quality, and reporting shortages.
Ensure compliance with temperature guidelines, proper storage, and correct packaging techniques.
Maintain accurate department records and administrative documentation.
Compliance, Safety & Recordkeeping
Ensure correct temperature controls, retail labeling compliance, and adherence to state and federal regulations.
Maintain sanitation, cleanliness, and safety of the department, equipment, coolers, and displays.
Follow all workplace safety rules and ensure employee compliance.
Implement emergency procedures for equipment or software malfunctions.
Complete and monitor required logs, including daily log sheets, sales, and labor records.
Communication & Team Engagement
Attend and participate in sales meetings.
Communicate department goals, sales performance, and improvement opportunities to employees.
Ensure compliance with company grooming standards and dress code.
Personnel Actions
Conduct pre‑employment interviews and participate in hiring decisions.
Initiate transfers, promotions, and disciplinary actions when appropriate.
Uphold company policies outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
Equipment Use
Safely operate related equipment including pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, and safety cutters.
General Responsibilities
Perform all job duties accurately, safely, and with honesty and integrity.
Complete additional duties as assigned.
