ROLE SUMMARY
Our Global Family Office (GFO) Investment Practice Associate will work alongside Client Investment Officers and Investment Relationship Managers to serve our Global Family Office clients and assist senior staff in the management of client investment programs. You will be expected to review client portfolios daily and identify issues based upon understanding of client investment programs and provide client servicing support as necessary. You will be expected to gain a strong knowledge of Northern Trust Asset Management (NTAM) products, services, clients and partners. You will have extensive contact with our Client Investment Officers, Investment Relationship Managers, other NTAM and Northern partners, as well as and clients/prospects. You will gain an in-depth understanding of client service needs and requests. You must knowledgeably respond to inquiries, as well as coordinate and implement complex solutions.
The position is geared toward early career investment professionals with interest in acquiring the knowledge and skills to develop into Client Investment Officers or Investment Relationship Managers.
SCOPE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Key duties and responsibilities include:
Provide investment management support by maintaining awareness of portfolio asset allocation and construction and prepares review material for client meetings
Review client portfolios daily and identify issues based upon understanding of client investment programs
Execute transactions to rebalance client investment programs and work with bank partners to ensure proper settlement of buy/sell transactions
Partner with portfolio management team and manager research on all additions, replacements and removal of managers/investments from client programs
Coordinate with several performance teams to analyze and prepare client portfolio information
Verify data accuracy and complete all client deliverables in a timely manner while accommodating any unique client requirements or requests
Demonstrate advanced technical proficiency in all aspects of client servicing including preparing presentations, analyzing performance, coordinating/implementing new client onboardings and navigating re‐structuring events independently
Initiate communication with clients, committees and/or Senior Management wherever necessary to provide thorough analysis and information
Analyze reports to identify potential situations, trends, and improvement opportunities
Identify, escalate and recommend enhancements to management based on inquiries received
Keep abreast of new and existing NTAM products and services
Maintain awareness of Northern Trust’s economic and market expectations
Execute complex events with significant financial client, and/or internal business impact
QUALIFICATIONS
Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills are required
In-depth knowledge of client servicing, investment, and/or portfolio management is required
Analytical and problem solving skills are required
Ability to research and resolve inquiries and to manage conflicting priorities and workflow
Comfortable recommending enhancements and cross selling products and services
Technical skills / systems knowledge (e.g. Microsoft Office) is required
College degree required
3 to 5 years work experience preferred, ideally in investments, trading, operations
CFA candidate preferred
Comfortable recommending enhancements and cross selling products and services
Series 7 and 63 licenses required and must be obtained within 90 days
Salary Range:
$80,800 - 133,400 USDSalary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
