Global Customs Classifications Senior Specialist – North America Region - Houston, TX

Key Responsibilities

Product Classification & Compliance:Conduct in-depth legal and factual analysis to accurately classify products under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) And Providing Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) ensuring timely and compliant customs clearance.Maintain and update customs classification records in accordance with global customs regulations, demonstrating the company’s commitment to reasonable care and due diligence In ERP systems like SAP and CIM .Monitor and interpret changes in global trade regulations that may impact product classification and ensure timely updates to internal systems and documentation.Regulatory & Government Agency Coordination:Identify and fulfil regulatory requirements from government agencies for both imports and exports, ensuring full compliance with applicable laws.Respond to inquiries from customs brokers and resolve issues affecting import shipments by researching and providing necessary documentation for customs clearance.Training & Knowledge Sharing:Develop and deliver training sessions for internal stakeholders and business partners on customs classification and compliance best practices.Create and maintain user-friendly reference materials and guides to support ongoing compliance and operational efficiency.Valuation & Cross-Functional Collaboration:Apply acceptable customs valuation methodologies to support accurate duty assessments and compliance with international trade laws.Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including supply chain, legal, and product management—to align business objectives with trade compliance requirements.Operational Agility:Manage a dynamic workload with shifting priorities, demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness to evolving business and regulatory needs.Perform additional duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the global trade compliance function.Data Management & Reporting:Prepare and present Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reports for recurrent management reviews and regional meetings across all global regions.Project & Regional Support:Provide strategic support for major regional projects, including initiatives in NAM, contributing expertise in classification and regulatory compliance.Draft and justify HS classification responses for customs queries in NAM, ensuring accuracy and regulatory alignment.Audit & Risk Management:Collaborate with internal teams during customs audits, including on-site audits, to ensure preparedness, transparency, and compliance with regulatory expectations.Statutory requirement of NAM Check and Verify PGA flags (FDA, APHIS, BAFTA, NHTSA, LACEY, EPA, FCC, DEA, FWS)Check and Verify ADCVD including case studies.Check and Verify Steel & Aluminum Derivatives

ECCN Support

    •  Evaluate and provide Export Control Classification Number (ECCN)

Analytical and Problem-Solving Skills:

Ability to analyze technical product information, identify relevant classification criteria, and resolve complex classification issues. 

Communication Skills:

Ability to effectively communicate complex information to diverse audiences, and build strong relationships with peers, leaders and internal stakeholders 

Attention to Detail and Accuracy:

Meticulous approach to ensure accurate classification and compliance with customs regulations

Experience with Customs Systems:

Familiarity with customs brokerage systems, trade compliance software, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. 

Technical Background:

Engineering background or understanding of product engineering is desirable
