We are seeking to recruit a Geophysicist to join the Barrick Africa & Middle East Exploration Team.

As Geophysicist for Barrick Africa Middle East (AME) Exploration, you will be expected to align with the Barrick DNA and to operate within our exploration projects and mining assets as a member of our integrated team.  You will contribute safely and cost-effectively to achieving targets in accordance with Mine Safety Standards, Policies, and Procedures, and ensure daily targets are met.  You will contribute to improving the quality and speed of exploration through the acquisition, processing, interpretation, and integration of geophysical data on early-stage exploration projects, operating Mines in the Africa Middle East region. This will result in the discovery of economically viable gold and copper deposits, positively impacting Barrick’s growth.

Responsibilities:

Assist in AME Generative initiatives to identify additional prospective camps for world-class gold or copper deposits through efficient application of geophysical techniques and interpretation of their data, resulting in the acquisition of quality projects for the Exploration pipeline.

Management of all aspects of project design, planning, data collection, processing, analysis, data quality control, and reporting for multiple airborne, downhole, and ground-based geophysical investigations.

Concurrently manage various geophysical-related tasks for multiple projects throughout the region.

Be prepared to travel extensively to field offices and project areas.

Lead the integration of geophysical ideas, tools, and interpretation within the AME region for the identification of new prospective projects, project areas, or targets.

Collaborate with the AME Exploration Team to drive exploration strategy and best practice workflows throughout the region.

Supervise external contractors and consultants and ensure activities comply with Barrick standards at all levels (safety, environment, quality of data collected).

Coach generative and project geologists in the effective application and interpretation of geophysical data.

Monitor and steer Barrick Exploration-sponsored research projects and education establishment partnerships.

Document studies, outcomes, and recommendations in relevant work plans and final reports.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics / Geology from a recognized institution. An advanced degree (MSc / PhD) will be viewed favorably.

Experience and Skills Requirements:

10 years+ geophysics experience, preferably including 5+ years of experience leading geophysical programs specifically targeting gold mineralization.

Practical experience leveraging various electrical and potential field prospecting tools for targeting in diverse geological environments.

Demonstrated commitment to safety, community, and environment.

Continued professional development and technical training.

Experience managing small, dedicated teams.

Good communication and administration skills.

Self-motivated and discovery-driven, with a focus on leadership.

Geological / geophysical interpretive and integration skills.

Firm understanding and recognition of mineralization models and geological processes.

Firm understanding of technical aspects of all geophysical techniques and current best practices as applied to mineral exploration.

Solid understanding of modern geophysical acquisition systems and processing workflows.

Demonstrated ability to work within a high-performing team.

Demonstrated competence in Geosoft (Oasis Montaj), ArcGIS, and high-performing 3D geoscience data integration platforms, and proficient in industry standard 3D geophysical inversion technologies.
