The Opportunity
A Geo-Seismic Engineer integrates geotechnical engineering with earthquake engineering to assess, design, and mitigate seismic risks for infrastructure projects. The role involves analysing soil–structure interaction under seismic loading, evaluating ground hazards, and recommending seismic-resilient foundation and ground-improvement strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
A. Seismic Hazard & Ground Response
PSHA/DSHA assessments
Site-specific response spectra (IS 1893, ASCE 7, etc.)
1D/2D ground response analyses (SHAKE, DEEPSOIL, PLAXIS, FLAC)
B. Geotechnical Seismic Analysis
Liquefaction, cyclic softening, settlement, lateral spreading
Seismic slope stability (pseudo-static/dynamic)
Bearing capacity & foundation response
Soil–structure interaction (SSI) for infrastructure
C. Design & Recommendations
Seismic design criteria for foundations, retaining structures, tunnels, dams, critical facilities
Ground improvement (stone columns, PVDs, compaction, grouting)
Microzonation inputs, mitigation plans, geotechnical design reports
D. Data & Reporting
Interpretation of geotechnical/geophysical data (MASW, CSW, SPT, CPT, Vs)
Technical reports, design notes, client presentations
E. Project Coordination
Collaboration with structural/geotechnical/geophysical teams
Client meetings, design reviews, site visits
Compliance with IS codes, Eurocode 8, FEMA, and global standards
Is this role right for you?
We'd love to hear from you if you have -
B.Tech/BE in Civil Engineering (M.Tech/MS in Geotechnical/Earthquake Engineering preferred)
2–10+ years’ experience with strong knowledge of soil dynamics, earthquake engineering, and foundation design
Proficiency in seismic analysis tools (PLAXIS, FLAC, SHAKE2000/DEEPSOIL, OpenSees, GeoStudio, SLOPE/W, QUAD4M)
Familiarity with seismic geophysics (Vs30, attenuation, site classification) and interpretation of CPT, SCPT, MASW, downhole/crosshole data
Strong analytical/problem-solving skills, technical writing, coordination ability, and strict code compliance
Experience in applications
Infrastructure consulting (metro, ports, bridges, highways)Oil & gas, offshore & onshore geotechnicsPower plants, industrial plantsDam engineering and hydropowerDisaster management and seismic micro zonation projects
Key Deliverables
Seismic hazard reports, Ground response analyses, Liquefaction and cyclic strength reports, Seismic design parameters for foundations
