**Job Description** Under the direct supervision of a physician, provides diagnostic, therapeutic and preventive health care services. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department. The PA-C will provide direct patient care, assist in surgical procedures, support departmental operations, participate in clinical research, and collaborate with residents and students to support their education and training. **Qualifications** -Bachelors/Masters is PA program -1 year experience -NYS PA License/Registration -NCCPA -DEA -ACLS/BLS -Infection Control -Intermediate level of MS Office Suite -Must have relevant competence in area of clinical practice assigned -Evidence of ability to maintain interpersonal relationships, communicate appropriately to others, and work effectively and efficiently to solve problems -Demonstrates the ability to work in a team displaying effective communication and critical thinking -Ability to read, write, understand and speak English in a clear and concise manner -Visual, physical, auditory and cognitive ability to assess patient status -Physical and mental health necessary to care for acutely ill patients with a broad variety of diagnoses and behaviors on a daily basis -Ability to walk, stand, lift, stoop, push and respond quickly in a variety of situations and for an extended period of time -Ability to use basic data entry, retrieval systems and the electronic medical record documentation system in a proficient manner **Responsibilities** Clinical & Surgical Care + Carry the OMS service pager and respond promptly to inpatient and emergency department consultations. + Perform comprehensive pre-operative evaluations, including medical risk stratification and surgical planning; gather appropriate data; manage OR booking and working with scheduling and finance if necessary. + Assist in complex oral and maxillofacial surgical procedures (trauma, orthognathic surgery, pathology, TMJ, dentoalveolar surgery) + Manage post-operative care, including inpatient rounding, discharge planning, complication recognition, and follow-up coordination. + Independently manage outpatient clinics (post op, and surgical consultation) under supervising surgeon guidance to optimize surgical throughput + Carry the OMS service pager and respond promptly to inpatient and emergency department consultations. + Evaluate and triage emergency room and inpatient OMS patients, including trauma, infection, and acute surgical conditions. + Place and manage orders, follow up on laboratory and imaging results, and coordinate care across services. + Perform bedside procedures within scope, including laceration repair and incision and drainage. Surgical Evaluation & Perioperative Management + Evaluate all surgical consults in collaboration with the chief resident and/or attending surgeon. + Conduct comprehensive pre-operative and post-operative assessments for a high-volume OMS practice. + Independently evaluate all surgical follow-up patients, ensuring continuity of care and early identification of complications. + Manage inpatient rounding, discharge planning, and outpatient surgical follow-up to optimize outcomes and efficiency + Optimize patient flow and operative scheduling to maximize surgical capacity Practice Growth & Efficiency + Book all surgical cases, completing required documentation, consent coordination, and pre-operative paperwork + Actively follow up with operating room scheduling and hospital financial services to ensure surgical clearance and minimize delays or cancellations + Organize and follow up with community and external referrals to ensure timely scheduling of surgical cases. + Serve as a key liaison between referring providers, patients, and the OMS surgical team. + Ensure high-quality consultation documentation that reinforces trust and continuity with referring providers. The salary range for the role is $68.5182 - $91.3576 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
