The General Labor is an Individual Contributor responsible for performing various non-technical tasks throughout the plant including operation of cranes, forklifts or simple machinery.

Essential Functions:

Assist other workers by performing specific or general duties, usually of lesser skillKeep other workers supplied with material, tools and suppliesPerform routing machine operations such as feeding or unloading machinesSetup and operate a variety of grinding machinesPerform operator inspections on crane and forkliftOther duties as required and/or assigned

Setup, operate, and perform general maintenance of equipmentAccountable and responsible for essential tools and equipment provided along with the maintenance of these tools and equipmentActively participates in department safety, demonstrates excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont safety policies and proceduresThis position reports to the Production Supervisor

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

The ability to run a floor sweeperThe ability to calculate simple mathematicsThe ability to read a tape measureThe ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issuesThe ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of peopleThe ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructionsThe ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, although most frequent lift is up to 20 poundsThe ability to become Valmont trained and certified in the operation of a forklift and scissor liftHigh awareness for safety at all timesWear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required in the production facilityMaintain a safe and productive working environment

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED equivalentSix (6) months previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environmentOne (1) year previous experience operating hand and/or power toolsThe ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive mannerThe ability to identify and communicate maintenance or product problems to departmental supervisionDemonstrate a commitment to Safety through excellent safety practices and behaviors by conforming to all Valmont safety policies and proceduresMust be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

Working Conditions & Physical Efforts:

Work is primarily performed in an indoor shop environment. This position will be exposed to all hazards located at manufacturing sites including noise, fumes, excessive heat/cold, dust, welding arc, all chemicals associated with the manufacturing areas, smoke, and confined spaces. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. The job requires safety glasses, hearing protection, and metatarsal safety shoes be worn at all times. The employee must be able to spend the entire work shift on their feet within the shop environment. The incumbent must also be able to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) for working in the production facility.

Hazards:

This job requires handling metal objects, some of which have sharp edges. Extreme care and awareness should be taken for all production jobs. Below are some common hazards that exist for this particular position. Set up and run of equipment provides the potential for injury through slips, falls, strains, pinch points, tripping hazards, shot blasting equipment, high pressure air nozzles, material handling equipment.
