The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

Assumes responsibility for assisting in the care of patients and endoscopic equipment. Functions as a member of the health care team, taking direction and guidance from Registered Nurse. All care is provided in compliance with and according to department policy/procedure and Standards of Care. Participates in staff, patient and/or family education to a degree consistent with personal knowledge base. Participates in unit Quality Improvement activities. Assumes responsibility for proper disinfection and processing of endoscopes and accessories. Prepares accessories for sterilization in SPD. Does inventory of outside vendor accessories and orders supplies in PeopleSoft system. Assists in procedures under the direct supervision of the RN.

Qualification

Required:

Must meet requirements of the ADA (attached).
Must be able to bend, stoop, push and pull. Lifting a minimum of 25 pounds may be required. Intermittent sitting, standing and walking.

Essential Functions:

Adheres to assigned breaks/meal times and returns within the proper time; offers assistant to nursing staff when time permits.

Adheres to Employee Code of Conduct.

Assists as needed with patient billing in MIS.

Assists with maintaining procedure stats for the unit.

Checks stock supplies daily, ordering necessary. Prepares routine Purchase

Checks stock supplies daily, ordering necessary. Prepares routine Purchase Orders from outside vendors to maintain stock levels.

Follows manufacturers recommendations in care and handling of all equipment and scopes.

Introduces self to patient and family. Assists with patient care and hygiene as directed by the RN.

Leak tests all scopes prior to washing. Mechanically disinfects and processes scopes according to Departmental Policies and manufacturer’s recommendations. Maintains a daily log as processed scopes.

Maintains a neat nursing unit, processing room, storage room and kitchen. Orders and stocks linen cart at beginning of each shift. Makes up and labels all disinfectants with expiration dates. Tests Gluteraldehyde daily.

Maintains neat procedure rooms, and Recovery area. Removes unused equipment and clutter from room and windowsill; strips stretchers immediately after use, cleans and replaces linen to stretcher. Places soiled linen into hampers.

Maintains patient satisfaction through attentive and courteous care of inpatients and outpatients. Responds promptly to patient needs and questions. Uses good judgement in directing appropriate needs/questions to the RN.

Observes and reports individual patient safety needs and responds appropriately.

Offers bedpans and/or urinals as requested or needed by patients, turns and repositions patients as directed by Registered Nurse.

Practices universal precautions as per Medical Center policy and procedure, completes fire, Infection Control, and safety competencies as required by OSHA and JCAHO.

Provides nourishment to patients in Recovery Area. Assists ambulatory patients to bathroom. Assists with undressing/dressing patients.

Reports any unusual patient observations to the nurse caring for the patient.

Run errands as requested by the Registered Nurse. Assists in answering the telephone. Schedules cases accurately following departmental guidelines.

Sets up procedure rooms with scopes, tests for optical quality, air, and water suction. Removes soiled scope to processing room.

Takes temperature, pulse and respirations, records and reports accurately, and reports abnormal results to the nurse. Attaches patient to physiologic monitor under direction of the RN.

Uses an understanding of the principles of growth and development to meet each patient’s age specific needs and provide age specific treatment and care.

Responsible for inventory supplies in the endoscopy department, order in PeopleSoft, Update inventory lists with assistance and put away stock items.

Responsible to maintain all sterile supplies in the Endoscopy department, ensures all sterile par levels are maintainedand that the integrity of all sterile supplies are intact. Functions as the main liaison with the Sterile Processing department to ensure the Endoscopy department's needs are met.
