Job DescriptionWe are seeking a detail-oriented and efficient Gardener for a fixed-term contract position in Gaborone, Botswana. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and enhancing the beauty of our outdoor spaces, ensuring they remain vibrant and well-kept throughout the year.
Plan and execute landscaping projects, including planting, pruning, and maintaining a variety of plants, trees, and shrubsMow lawns, trim hedges, and remove weeds to keep garden areas neat and tidyImplement and maintain irrigation systems to ensure proper watering of all plant lifeMonitor and treat plants for pests and diseases using appropriate methodsPerform basic maintenance on gardening tools and equipmentAssist in the design and creation of new garden features, such as flower beds or small structuresAdapt gardening techniques to suit the local climate and soil conditions of GaboroneMaintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all safety protocolsCollaborate with team members and communicate effectively about garden maintenance needs and progressQualificationsMinimum of 2 years professional gardening or landscaping experienceHigh school diploma or equivalent; horticulture certification preferredExtensive knowledge of plant care, maintenance, and landscaping techniquesProficiency in using various gardening tools and equipmentExperience with irrigation systems installation and maintenanceFamiliarity with pest and disease management in gardensBasic carpentry skills for minor repairs and building small structuresKnowledge of local plant species and climate conditions in BotswanaPhysical stamina and ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions typical of GaboroneStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsExcellent time management and ability to prioritize tasks efficientlyGood communication and teamwork skillsValid driver's license and ability to operate small machinery (preferred)Additional InformationAvani leaders try new approaches and challenge the status quo; they recognise that the hotel industry is rapidly changing and that what worked today is simply not good enough for tomorrow.
