Job Summary:
A distinguished 2,500-acre estate in Tuscany is seeking a highly experienced, self-sufficient Gamekeeper to manage and maintain a traditional British-style driven bird shoot. The position involves overseeing all aspects of gamekeeping, including rearing birds, managing shoot logistics, coordinating staff, and ensuring compliance with Italian game laws. This is a permanent, live-in role ideal for someone with a strong track record on formal shoots and a passion for traditional countryside management.
The shoot operates 10–13 days per season (October to January), hosting primarily British guests. The rest of the year is focused on preparation, wildlife and pest control, habitat maintenance, and infrastructure development.
Job Specification:
Plan and execute British-style shoot days including peg layouts, gun lines, and double-gun setups Rear game birds from chicks through to release, including sourcing, feeding, and pen care Perform daily estate rounds to manage predators and assess wildlife conditions Control pests including foxes, wild boar, and other local species Coordinate all aspects of shoot logistics: beaters, loaders, pickers-up, vehicles, and hospitality setup Maintain pens, drives, tracks, and gamekeeping infrastructure to the highest standard Liaise with estate management to ensure compliance with seasonal and local Italian hunting regulations Minimal guest interaction; focus is operational, not hosting Maintain gamekeeping records and contribute to broader estate conservation efforts
Candidate Requirements:
Proven experience as a gamekeeper on a formal British-style shoot (essential) Strong understanding of British shooting etiquette and standards EU passport; must be eligible to work in Italy Italian gamekeeping or hunting license highly desirable (support available if not held) Conversational Italian strongly preferred; fluent English required Highly self-motivated and able to work independently in a rural setting Practical and hands-on, with strong field and mechanical skills Confident with animal husbandry and predator control
