This job is a Federal Work Study, non-benefited position in the Public and Professional Services Division that reports to the Program Director – Horticulture. Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a federally funded program by the Department of Education. This program provides part-time jobs for undergraduate students with significant financial need and is administered by the FWS Coordinator, and the Office of Financial Aid, in accordance with the law, federal regulations, and instructions from the United States Department of Education.
Salary : $13.50 per hour.
Hours: Days and Hours are flexible up to 19 hours per week. Typically, 9 am to 6 pm, Monday to Thursday.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be eligible for funds through the Federal Work Study Program for the current semester at Gwinnett Technical College and be in good academic standing.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the minimum qualifications, you must be able to follow directions and complete tasks but also work independently. Ability to handle multiple tasks; use proper judgment in directing questions to appropriate staff for assistance.
Job Description Summary:
Under close supervision, provides landscape, farm and greenhouse maintenance around the H building and on the farm.
Job Responsibilities & Performance Standards:

Duties will include but are not limited to:

+ Weeding- both hand-pulling and pesticide application
+ Insects- physical removal and pesticide application
+ Disease- quarantine and pesticide application
+ Propagation
+ Sowing seeds
+ Transplanting and stepping-up
+ Watering and fertilization
+ Student Livework Support
+ Plant, Farmers Market, Floral sales
+ Customer service
+ Register
+ Set-up and Teardown
+ Loading
+ Mowing, edging and blowing
+ Clean up debris
+ Maintaining the seasonal color beds (watering, mulching, etc.)
+ Assist in the culinary garden
+ Pruning
+ Pressure washing
+ Office support
