Future Systems Architect

SUMMARY
The primary responsibility of the Future Systems Architect is to develop concepts and carry out initial systems architecture activities for future systems, based on analysis of user requirements.
A good knowledge of emerging technologies and a clear understanding of Company capabilities and established knowledge, so that the goals of the business as defined in the SBP and MYB, can be realised.
This is an exciting opportunity to support interactions with internal and external representatives of the MOD technical community to ensure that requirements are understood and where necessary, will be able to make assumptions with customer agreement.
You will interact with other members of inter-disciplinary teams, some of whom may be non-IAS staff supporting architecture development and concept generation and analysis.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsible for generating innovative concepts and high level system architectures using existing and emerging technologies to meet user requirements and contribute to future product plans.
To be involved in the generation, implementation and leadership of Research & Technology (R & T) projects that support the front-end systems architecture and product plans.
Responsible for developing and improving suitable processes to create efficiency and consistency in the future systems architecture process.
To be involved in the development of other Research & Technology team members to improve the overall systems engineering competence in the department.
Work with external R & T engineers in other Thales divisions or partner companies, to ensure that the widest possible knowledge base is applied to new concepts.
Support to the task of communicating and influencing concepts within IAS and also with customers and external partners.
To be involved in developing technology plans, strategy and product policy as appropriate to emerging systems in collaboration with MOD Technical Stakeholders.
To advise the Head – Research & Technology on issues related to future systems architecture trends, technologies and tools.

Working knowledge of systems engineering processes, techniques and toolsIdeally candidates will have achieved Chartered Engineer status and be active participant in an appropriate Professional InstitutionProficiency in technical disciplines relevant to IAS products and understanding of IAS commercial business processes, management disciplines and technical capabilitiesA working knowledge of project management techniques and software toolsLeadership potentialSelf motivationGood communication and presentation skillsA dynamic and flexible approach to embracing new processesIt is desirable that candidates can demonstrate a good understanding of weapon system design and/or a broad range of technologies used in weapons.
Must be able to travel and work within the UK and overseas, at short notice and on an occasional basis.
