The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.
This position is for a Second Shift functional leader supporting the Launch Equipment Shops (LES) within the Ground Systems Support directorate at Kennedy Space Center. This position provides leadership for union represented technicians of various crafts to include cable fabrication, machinists, and equipment maintenance and repair. Serves as the focal point for leading the technicians in the timely execution of planned and scheduled work to meet program critical milestones.
Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day leadership and clear direction to a team of technicians. Provide work management functions to include but not limited to electrical cable and enclosure fabrication WAD Development. Ensure work is performed safely per established processes and work authorizing documents. Lead pre-shift meetings. Participate in pre-task briefings and review Safe Plan of Action (SPA) documentation. Ensure required PPE is provided and utilized. Act as POC for incident response and reporting. Establish solid goals and expectations. Maintain safety, quality, and good housekeeping standards. Plan and direct shop resources. Work closely with Work Control to plan and schedule work based on priority. Build strong relationships based on trust, integrity, and keeping commitments. Proactively identify opportunities to provide recognition and constructive feedback to employees. Significant overtime and weekend work will be required at times depending on operations schedule. Experience in aviation and/or aerospace highly desired. Demonstrated experience and success in hands-on leadership of fabrication shops and craft technicians, with a strong understanding of asset management principles and practices, reliability centered maintenance, OSHA standards, resource planning and management, and utilization of metrics to drive performance and process improvement. Strong ability to lead and direct a highly technical workforce in the execution of time sensitive jobs/tasks/activities worked according to detailed schedules. General knowledge of codes and standards associated with fabrication shop operations to include machining, welding, sheet metal, maintenance operation, and mechanical work. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Experience working with planning scheduling tools such as Maximo, Primavera, and Solumina. Experience with 6S, Lean 6 Sigma, Hazard Assessments, Root Cause Analysis, and Failure Modes & Effects Analysis is desirable. Must have a fundamental understanding of asset management principles and practices, utilizing metrics to measure and drive performance, and work control functions (coordination, planning, scheduling) to maximize resource utilization and productivity. Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex. Position may require individual to travel daily to different areas on site. Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand, is required to access various locations on the facility. Climbing ladders and platforms may be necessary.
