Functional Architect

Summary

The Guidewire Professional Services organization includes business analysts, functional consultants, and technical integration consultants who worktogether to help customer and SI vendors to implement Guidewire applications at customer sites. Our projects are complex and can last from three months totwo years depending on the specific customer requirements. During a project, the team will identify customer business requirements, identify solutionsleveraging OOTB capabilities coupled with configuration to meet those requirements, and integrate the Guidewire application to other internal or externalsystems.
Guidewire consultants are expected to spend the majority of their time on-site with the customer business and technical teams. This is primarily a Japan-based role but there may be an opportunity to work in other regions that Guidewire operates in.

Job Description

Key activities include:

Collaborate effectively with Japanese customers in Japanese to understand their business goals, technical requirements, and project objectivesLead workshops to gather requirements, identify challenges, and propose solutions based on best practicesTranslate business requirements into functional specifications and system configurationsAdvise customers on adopting Guidewire’s best practices to optimize their business processesConfigure Guidewire applications to meet customer requirements while ensuring alignment with their workflowsBuild strong relationships with customers by aligning Guidewire solutions with their specific business needsPerform Proof of Concept (PoC) activities to validate proposed solutions and demonstrate their feasibilityDocument configurations, functional designs, and integration processes for effective knowledge sharingWork with Guidewire product management to share configuration concepts and further develop core product functionality

These roles represent Guidewire Software to our customers. The successful consultant is expected to closely with our customers while making surethat Guidewire product management is kept abreast of product strengths and weaknesses. The position requires a unique blend of technical-aptitude, business process understanding, and customer-facing skills.

Required skills/experience - all:

If Japanese is a second language, JLPT 1 level proficiency and practical knowledge of Japan's business environment with proven building skillsIf English is a second language, TOEIC score of 700+ or equivalent fluency; ability to pass language assessment if neededOver 7 years of combined experience in software development and consulting, with no less than 3 yearsStrong communication, leadership, organizational, and customer service skillsAbility to work independently, with a flexible and proactive work ethicExperience working in small teams and Agile development environmentsTechnical expertise in:- Advanced web application development- 2+ years of Object-Oriented Programming- Cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) with 2+ years of experience- Ability to learn new products and business domains quickly- Proven ability to lead customer discussions and navigate complex situations- Full development lifecycle experience, from data modeling to UI/UX design

Desired skills/experience:

Experience or knowledge of non-life insurance in Japan, including policies and claims processingSystems analyst/consultant experience companyHands-on experience with Guidewire products for design, configuration, and testingExperience with business processes and configurations using configurable software such as Oracle Applications and SAPUnderstanding of the SDLC and related project development lifecycle processesProficiency in scripting languages and modern web frameworks
