10-MONTH TENURE TRACK POSITION

 

COMPENSATION:

 

Initial salary placement ranges from $67,886 to $106,308, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $142,425.

 

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS - Comprehensive benefit package which includes:

 

• District paid medical, dental and vision insurance for the employee and dependents.

• Participation in CalSTRS Teachers Retirement System.

 

Representative Duties

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

• Must be present on campus to teach face-to-face classes and hold in-person office hours.

 

• Primary responsibility will be instructing students in foundation Art courses and will include, but not be limited to Drawing, 2-D Design, 3-D Design and History of Art. In addition, part of the teaching load may include Computer Graphics, Graphic Design, Illustration, Printmaking and watercolor.

• Participates in all full-time faculty responsibilities, including, but not limited to: faculty and department meetings, office hours, committee assignments, program development, and student activities.

• Instruction may include day, evening, and weekend classes.

• Participating in assessment, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes, Program Review, and Curriculum Development.

• Collaborate with colleagues in program review and curriculum development and participate in other departmental functions.

• Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of the disabilities and the diverse academic, cultural, socio-economic, and ethnic backgrounds of students and colleagues.

• Provide critical feedback on all duties, responsibilities, and assignments.

 

Requirements

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's in fine arts, art, or art history OR Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in humanities OR the equivalent.

(NOTE: ''Master's in fine arts" as used here refers to any master's degree in the subject matter of fine arts, which is defined to include visual studio arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics, textiles, and metal and jewelry art; and also art education and art therapy. It does not refer to the "Master of Fine Arts" (MFA) degree when that degree is based on specialization in performing arts or dance, film, video, photography, creative writing or other nonplastic arts.)

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

• Experience teaching in the Community College system.

• Demonstrated ability to develop an Art Program by utilizing cutting edge technologies in traditional art classes.

• The ability to work with faculty to develop curriculum, program review, scheduling, ordering of materials, and other department-related activities.

• Has experience writing courses that reflect diverse subject matter including production and art history courses.

• Be able to promote interdisciplinary participation including the creation of college events that foster student engagement.

• Work with the articulation officer to update classes for transfer to the UC and Cal State systems.

• Be able to teach a variety of subject matter, including Art History and studio production courses.

• A willingness to keep up with current technologies and modes of learning.

 

Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations. Position requires ability and schedule flexibility to accommodate active participation in College and Department Outreach Events such as College and Career Fairs and College and Community Presentations.

• Knowledge of developing course syllabi

• Knowledge of fostering inclusive environments for student learning

• Knowledge of integrating accessible practices into course design and teaching strategies

• Knowledge and ability to teach and support students across multiple modalities including, online, hybrid, remote, HyFlex, and correspondence while maintaining engagement and accessibility.

• Knowledge and ability to maintain compliance with all third-party accrediting bodies by keeping required credentials, certifications, and regulatory standards current when applicable.

 

Ability to:

• Ability to work effectively in person through clear communication, collaboration, and adaptability in diverse professional settings.

• Demonstrated ability to remain current in one's discipline through ongoing professional development, research, and engagement with emerging trends and best practices.

• Ability to use advanced technology in the classroom

• Ability to use Canvas or other LMS platforms

• Ability to interact with others (faculty, staff, students, administration)
