ABOUT THE POSITION
Long Beach Community College District is currently seeking one (1) full-time tenure track Communication Studies Professor commencing in the Fall 2026 semester. This assignment also includes curriculum and program development, participation in department, division, college committees, and participatory governance activities. Faculty are expected to collaborate across disciplines, to make effective use of student support resources, to participate in ongoing professional development, and to assume leadership roles both within the department and in the institution. The teaching assignment may be at the Liberal Arts campus, the Trade, Technology, and Community Learning Campus and/or at other teaching locations and may be a full term (16-weeks) and/or compressed assignment (12-week, 8-week, or shorter.) The assignment may be day, evening, weekend, onsite and/or off-campus and is subject to change as needed to serve student needs. The ideal candidate for this position embraces the overall mission of the Long Beach Community College District, with a focused commitment to excellence in teaching and student success through the discipline of Communication Studies.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master's in speech, speech broadcasting, telecommunications, rhetoric, communication, communication studies, speech communication or organizational communication, OR
• Bachelor's in any of the above AND Master's in drama/ theater arts, mass communication or English, OR
• The equivalent

All candidates must demonstrate
Evidence of a sensitivity, understanding, and ability to manage the classroom environment AND effectively provide instruction to community college students of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.
Desirable Qualifications
• MA in Communication Studies or related field.
• Recent experience in teaching college-level transfer courses related to public speaking, interpersonal communication, intercultural communication, small group communication, leadership, communication theory, persuasion, oral interpretation of literature, and/or argumentation and debate.
• Evidence of the ability to teach using a variety of teaching modalities (in- person, partially online/hybrid, asynchronous, and synchronous).
• Evidence of an ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of academic skills.
• Evidence of the ability to use a variety of experiential teaching strategies that foster student learning, success, and retention.
• Evidence and understanding and/or experience working with Student Learning Outcomes and their assessment.
• Demonstrated understanding of, and documented experience in fostering DEIA (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility) in courses taught.
• Desire and demonstrated ability to participate actively and take on leadership positions in department, division, and college committees, and in shared governance of Long Beach City College.
• Evidence of the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with all members of the Long Beach City College community including, but not limited to, students, faculty, and staff.
