Summary:
The Section Manager will be responsible for the managerial direction and leadership of the Aviation Federal (AF) Fueling Electrical Engineers within the AF Southeast Region (SER) Feuling Electrical Section. This includes supporting and executing business strategy, developing high performance teams, and promoting the Burns McDonnell culture, values and mission. The Section Manager will lead the fueling electrical engineering staff section in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns McDonnell’s core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety, and overall outstanding service. This role will also have a responsibility to support the AF SER Global Practice and the SER in regional initiatives. In addition to the engineering responsibilities of a Fueling Electrical Engineer, this position includes additional leadership, mentoring, and strategic planning responsibilities within the group. These additional areas of responsibility are outlined below, in addition to other duties as assigned by senior management:

Essential Functions:
•Provide leadership, guidance and instruction to the team; direct and coordinate work assignments and review performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.
•Responsible for profitable growth of the section; ensuring staff levels, staff loading, and staff assignments meet project requirements while maintaining billable goals.
•Implement, apply and support company, global practice and/or regional office programs and initiatives; successfully navigating and managing change within the section.
•Provide administrative, supervisory and technical design guidance and support for fueling electrical engineers.
•Set project financial performance targets with input from project managers, and other SER management; Achieve stated targets and standards for financial performance.
•Manage department budget and expenditure of funds.
•Support or lead portions of department’s meetings; Support, organize, and lead Fueling Electrical Section meetings.
•Coordinate with the AF SER Operations Manager; AF SER Engineering or GP Manager; other SER Department / Section managers; and outside-AF SER Department / Section Managers.
•Monitor and track workloads to confirm resources are appropriate.
•Review, track, and forecast the Fueling Electrical Section’s staff workload/billability. Prepare and present workload forecasts at global practice meetings.
•Monitor the performance of Fueling Electrical Section’s staff related projects and the adherence to quality control.
•Coordinate and allocate resources within the Fueling Electrical Section and serve as a liaison between electrical groups and fueling electrical groups in other office locations and project managers in other offices.
oProvide strategic guidance to the AF SER Section and national teams on project approach, key contacts, and consultant engagement.
•Act as lead fueling electrical engineer on projects responsible for design deliverables including drawings, specifications, calculations and reports.
•Serve as assistant project manager for fueling electrical studies, fueling electrical project development and fueling electrical project definition efforts.
oAssist project managers with client and team coordination, verifying billing and invoicing, managing change orders, and supporting project closeout activities.
•Collaborate with the Fueling Electrical and Electrical National Discipline Leaders, Regional Fueling Electrical and Electrical Department/Section Managers and SER fueling electrical and electrical section engineers to enhance the development of the Fueling Electrical and Electrical Section’s tools, including calculation spreadsheets, modeling, starter drawings, and master specifications, aiming to improve design efficiency, specification development, project execution, workload and staffing. Lead the development of initiatives and tools to improve the Section’s performance and procedures.
•Work with the AF SER Operations Manager and the Fueling Electrical National Discipline Leader to identify areas of improvement, and development of tools to facilitate and standardize design or managerial practices/procedures.
•Responsible for the recruitment, development, training, and retention of staff.
•Assist in the development of staff technical knowledge and provide tangible feedback for development or improvement.
•Monitor the progress of direct reports on projects and provide input into areas of concern and direction or redirection as required to achieve project schedules, productivity goals, budgets, and quality.
•Responsible for conducting performance evaluations for section staff.
•Responsible for interpreting and effectively communicating the organization’s policies, purposes, and goals to staff, ensuring clarity and alignment across the team.
•Support and assist in the development of the Fueling Electrical section business plan including but not limited to performance, market demand, growth, new ventures, and marketing opportunities.
oGrowth plans of the section, recruitment and hiring decisions are to be coordinated, reviewed and accepted by the Fueling Electrical National Discipline Leader, the Electrical National Discipline Leader and AF SER leadership.
•Responsible for collaborating with business development managers, business line leads, project managers, and proposal production staff on proposals to secure work for staff.
•Lead fueling electrical specific project proposal efforts.
•Establish or review fee estimates and schedules for AF SER Fueling Electrical related proposals.
•Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and sound judgment in identifying, anticipating, and solving complex problems.
•Drive the development, supervision, and continual optimization of department-specific tools, workflows, and technical standards to support efficient specification development, detailed design, and execution of engineering projects.
•Champion innovation and process automation initiatives to elevate design quality, standardization, and overall project performance.
•Determine section objectives and requirements, organize projects and develop standards and guidelines.
•Recommend changes in the AF SER Fueling Electrical Section and/or the Fueling MEP Department structure and organization to achieve the objectives assigned to them.
•Market global practice, Department and Section capabilities with higher focus on technical development functions and efficiency improvement projects to serve our clients, increase staff skills, and maintain billable goals.
•Attend project meetings when requested by leadership.
•Provide guidance to lead AF SER Fueling Electrical engineers relative to set-up and structure of staffing and execution approach on projects including interface with other disciplines.
•Support, mentor, and direct Fueling Electrical Section staff in the following areas:
oConducting fueling electrical system assessments and developing follow-up recommendation reports.
oPerforming energy audits to evaluate the suitability of variable frequency drive (VFD) equipment.
oProviding technical support to field construction teams and system suppliers during commissioning, testing, and controls troubleshooting.
•Responsible for overall Quality Assurance/Quality Control process adherence within the Fueling Electrical Section.
•Set quality review assignments and performs quality reviews for Fueling Electrical projects as needed.
•Serve as the technical advisor and provide senior-level input and evaluation of project development activities.
•Assist design-build project managers in the development of strategic performance, technical, and commercial approaches to enhance competitiveness in fueling design-build proposals.
•Assist in the evaluation of contractual performance requirements and review of appropriate flow-down of obligations to subcontractors and vendors to manage risk and maintain technical compliance for design-build projects.
•Review construction cost estimates for fueling electrical projects.
•Provide administrative, supervisory and technical direction for Summer Interns assigned to the AF SER Fueling Electrical Section including assignment of work, coordinating site trips, and other associated functions.
•Understand industry and software trends and provide input on how to adapt new technologies.
•Enforce compliance with company and site safety policies.
•Responsible for diversity initiatives.
•Performs all other duties as assigned.
