Front End Supervisor Fifth Person

Basic Purpose and Function:

Assists the Third Person and Grocery Manager in directing the operation of the Grocery Department. Assists with supervising, training, ordering, receiving, storing, pricing, stocking, and merchandising. Directs and controls the operation of the entire store in the absence of the Store Director, Grocery Manager and Third Person.

The pay range is $16.90 to $27.75 per hour, but not less than the local minimum wage.  Starting rates will vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Encourages and maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on fast, friendly, courteous customer service. Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques. Handles customer relations. Performs ordering, receiving, storing, pricing, stocking and merchandising duties. Assists in planning organizing and directing the day-to-day operations of the Grocery Department and Front End functions including recommending regular/ad special merchandise requirements based on product movement needs. Assists in implementing Company and Division merchandising policies or Store Director instructions. Assists in scheduling Grocery Department employees. Monitors employee performance attendance. Recommends personnel actions such as hiring, firing, layoff, disciplinary actions. Ensures employees are trained in proper performance work duties and familiarized with Company policies and regulations. Prepares various grocery items. Responsible for proper accounting, sales accounting, inventory maintenance, storage, cash register detail tapes, issuance, pickup money from checkers. Ensures compliance with Company sanitation, safety, security and other policies. Initiates and follows through on correction action needed. Implement emergency procedures in the event of equipment or computer software malfunctions. Responsible for overall operation of the store including supervision of all department employees and handling customer complaints in the absence of the Store Director, Grocery Department Manager, and Third Person. Perform duties of Receiving Clerk in the absence of Receiving Clerk. Responsible for performing job duties with honesty and integrity. Other necessary and required duties and responsibilities.

Skills, Physical Requirements, Working Conditions:

Ability to be friendly, courteous, tactful, and maintain composure when dealing with customers and co-workers. Requires good oral communication skills and leadership ability. Requires analytical ability to handle administrative details such as planning, reporting, meeting operating objectives and schedules, and making hiring and disciplinary action decisions. Requires ability to judge and react to business activity, evaluate data, and weigh statistics and measures. Must have knowledge of product variety, location, and merchandise ability. Must possess thorough knowledge of modern retailing. Ability to reach, stand, and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights approximately 55 lbs. Ability to push and pull fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks. Good eye-hand coordination is necessary. Mental alertness is required to ensure safe and accurate completion of work assignments. Must pass thorough knowledge of modern cashiering procedures. Must be able to effectively operate, stand, reach, and operate front end cash register and scanning equipment. Must be able to operate stocker equipment. Ability to perform Receiving Clerk's duties is required. Requires knowledge and ability to implement emergency procedures in the event of equipment or computer software malfunctions. Exposure to normal hazards exists associated with equipment and work areas necessary to perform job duties throughout the grocery department.
