Job Description
The Packaging Operator is responsible for executing all packaging functions, ensuring the operation of the Packaging Unit aligns with quality, productivity, and packaging codes as outlined in the quality system. This role also includes operating a forklift as needed and adhering to all Work Instructions.
ResponsibilitiesCheck materials running at finishing lines to capture work codes and customer formats, ensuring all customer needs are met for packaging.Secure all necessary packaging materials in advance, such as skids, pallets, cardboard, paper, plastic, and banding, to ensure packers have the correct materials.Check packaged materials for accuracy and quality.Confirm correct weights on materials off scale and ensure proper parking locations are entered in the computer.Coordinate the movement of materials through shipping bays, communicating with Cranemen as necessary.Manage work at packaging lines for multiple coils exiting both Slitter and Blanking Line for maximum efficiency.Ensure coils are downended with correct pack codes, quality, and efficiency, and verify weights and dunnages are correctly entered in the computer.Maintain an ongoing inventory of all packing needs at pack fields, including wood, paper, plastic products, banding, tools, shrink wrap guns, and propane.Assist as necessary in any packaging needs by redistributing packers between lines or working with them to maintain smooth and efficient operations.Direct unresolved questions through the chain of command in the shipping section.Monitor and correct safety activities as necessary.Train shift utility personnel working in the packaging section and motivate pack crews to achieve the outlined results.Perform other tasks as assigned.Essential Skills1+ year forklift experienceExperience in packaging, packing, and bandingExperience in a warehouse environmentAdditional Skills & QualificationsExperience in a warehouse or manufacturing environmentMinimum 1 year experience operating a forklift is highly preferredHigh School Diploma or GED requiredPacking or shipping experience preferredWhy Work Here?
This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in the steel industry, which provides stability and global job opportunities despite market fluctuations. After 500 hours, there are two permanent positions available, and you will receive hands-on training with opportunities to learn how to operate the production line.
Work Environment
The work takes place in a clean stainless steel manufacturer/distributor warehouse that is not climate-controlled, meaning it will be hot in the summer and cold in the winter. The work schedule is Monday-Friday from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with the expectation of availability from 5 AM to 5 PM. Occasionally, weekend work may be required if the supply chain demands increase.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $18.00/hr.
