The opportunity: Forklift Drivers play a critical role in our production process. They are responsible for moving materials and finished product within the plant and loading/unloading trailers. The job is fast-paced, requires attention to detail, and a relentless focus on safety. Opportunities to cross train on other similar machinery may be available.
How you will impact Smurfit Westrock: Primary job duties will include but are not limited to: • Follow all safety rules and procedures and actively participate in the plant’s safety culture • Load/unload production machines, trailers, and hazmat materials utilizing Thors and onboard computers • Perform safety inspections for trailers, docks, and dock plates • Utilize proper PPE for forklift safety checks and changing propane tanks • Inspect pallets for excessive debris and structural issues • Alert Machine Operators to product quality issues • Maintain housekeeping and organization in the workspace • Perform various other duties as needed.
What you need to succeed: • Minimum 2 years of forklift experience in a manufacturing or production setting • Knowledge of scanning systems • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand basic English • Ability to read materials to understand and apply content, such as instruction manuals and procedure manuals. • Understanding of how to read shipping tags and shipping manifests • Able to read a tape measure and perform basic math • Must wear safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection and other safety gear as required (We will provide any necessary PPE.) • Ability sit/drive continuously with occasional walking, kneeling, crouching, squatting, bending, climbing, and grasping. • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. • Ability to work in an uncontrolled temperature environment (hot or cold) • Experience moving units without pallets preferred
