Forensic Scientist II, Extraction

The Opportunity

In this role, for an Extraction Forensic Scientist in the Gretna SAMHSA-certified laboratory of Alere. The individual filling this position will be responsible for preparation, extraction, and sample vial preparation of samples for GC/MS confirmation in accordance with the SAMHSA mandatory guidelines and those of other regulatory organizations.

What You'll Do

Preparation and extraction of samples for GC/MS confirmation in the forensic toxicology laboratorySafely operate, monitor and troubleshoot laboratory equipment to ensure proper functionalityPrepare, test and evaluate new reagents, controls and calibrators in compliance with SOPs and regulatory guidelinesPerform and document preventative maintenance and quality control proceduresSound technical decision-making regarding testing and problem solvingStorage of and replenishment of supplies as needed• Adherence to all security procedures for ensuring confidentiality of donor informationAdherence to all established guidelines outlined in Employee HandbookMust comply with company policiesMaintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment at all times

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or a related scienceMinimum 1 year of clinical laboratory testing experience is required for Technologist levelAbility to work independently and within a team environmentProficient with computers; Familiarity with laboratory information systems are a plusHigh level of attention detail along with strong communication and organizational skillsMust be able to pass a standardized color vision screenFlexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needsThe individual may be required to work varying shifts or weekends to perform the Essential functions

The base pay for this position is $17.15 – $34.25 per hour. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
