Job Description: Job Title: Floral Department Manager Trainee Department: Floral Pay Type: Hourly Revision Date: 08/20/2025 General Function: Assists the Floral Department Manager in setting standards for customer service, employee relations, cleanliness, sanitation, professional appearance, and profitability. Learns to coordinate the delivery of the freshest and best-quality product at a competitive retail price while developing the skills needed to become a Floral Department Manager. Reporting Relationships: Accountable and Reports to: Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Operations, Perishables, Health Wellness Home, Floral Department Manager Direct Reports: Floral Department employees in absence of the Department Manager Primary Responsibilities: + Maintains a positive attitude; supports an atmosphere of friendliness and teamwork. + Assists in creating a friendly customer experience by greeting customers and providing prompt, courteous service. + Learns department standards for customer service, cleanliness, sanitation, and merchandising. + Smiles and greets customers in a friendly manner, whether in the floral department or elsewhere in the store. + Assists customers by: + Escorting them to products they’re looking for + Securing products that are out of reach + Carrying or loading items as needed + Passing along customer requests and suggestions + Assisting with floral orders and special requests + Answers the phone and provides helpful service, including taking floral orders. + Learns to process FTD, Teleflora, interstore, and internet floral orders. + Supports planning and setting up floral displays and promotions. + Helps inspect signage, displays, and product freshness. + Assists with ordering and inventory under the supervision of the Floral Department Manager. + Learns how to figure retail pricing, ensure proper labeling, and maintain competitive pricing. + Assists in maintaining proper temperatures and storage procedures to ensure freshness and reduce shrink. + Helps troubleshoot equipment needs and reports maintenance issues. + Maintains personal appearance and follows department/company dress and hygiene guidelines. + Reports to work when scheduled and on time. Education and Experience: High School or equivalent experience and over six months up to one year of similar or related experience. Physical Requirements: + Must be physically able to exert up to 100 pounds of force (shared team lifting) occasionally; exert up to 50 pounds of force frequently; and exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. + Visual requirements include vision from less than 20 inches to more than 20 feet with or without correction, depth perception, color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), and field of vision. + Must be able to perform the following physical activities: Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics: + Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. + Commitment to the Hy-Vee Mission and a willingness to promote the values of the company. + Strong interpersonal skills. An ability to relate to and interact with other people in a friendly, professional manner. + Ability to identify problems, develop and execute solutions. Working Conditions: This position is frequently exposed to temperature extremes and dampness. There are possible equipment movement hazards from a pallet jack, electrical shock and exposure to cleaning chemicals and solvents. This is a fact paced work environment. Financial Responsibility: Responsible for company assets including equipment and merchandise.
