BASIC PURPOSE AND FUNCTION:
Directs and controls the operation of the Floral Department including supervising and training personnel. Ensures customer service, quality, freshness and selection. Orders, receives, prices and merchandise all Floral Department merchandise.
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains and encourages an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on fast, friendly, courteous customer service. Engages In suggestive selling via telephone and one-on-one customer contact. Handles customer relations and promotes personalized service. Take special orders from customers by telephone and in person.
Supervises, motivates, directs, trains and participates in the hiring of Floral Department personnel. Monitors employee performance. Schedules employees to ensure adequate coverage and service level.
May order balloons, helium and floral department plants, flowers, accessories and supplies. Ensures pro duct freshness and selection. Monitors and responds to special occasion merchandise requirements, sales trends, or seasonal promotions, and customer feedback. Performs receiving duties including breaking downloads, verifying orders against invoices. reporting shortages and claims, stocking and rotating pro• duct. Prevents shrink. Adheres to product temperature and storage guidelines and follows proper package• Ing techniques. Properly conditions and handles all Indoor and outdoor plants, shrubs and flowers. Follows proper processing procedures for all cut flowers.
Satisfies departmental projected sales and gross margin. Creates custom made floral arrangements and corsages as required. Decorates plants. Makes bows. Creates effective promotional and seasonal displays. Ensure proper signing procedures are followed. Ensures compliance with department, store and company policies and procedures.
Performs periodic Inventories. Processes administrative paperwork and maintains accurate department records.
Responsible for cost and quality control. Maintains a safe work environment. Establish and maintain cleaning and sanitation schedules for sales floor, cases, coolers, and equipment. Uses work aids such as telephones, knives, scissors, box cutters, stem cutters. wire, staplers, pricing guns, hot glue guns, spray plants, balloon heat sealing machines, helium tanks, hand trucks and pallet jacks.
Responsible for performing all Job duties and responsibilities with honesty and integrity. Other necessary and required duties and responsibilities.
The pay range is $23.37 per hour, but not less than the local minimum wage. Starting rates will vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement.
SKILLS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS, ANO WORKING CONDITIONS:
Requires strong communication skills, good leadership and interpersonal skills, the ability to manage people and the ability to maintain composure in dealing with customers and co-workers.
Requires knowledge of interviewing techniques and the analytical ability to handle administrative details such as planning orders, safes projections, scheduling. supervising and making hiring decisions.
Requires a good understanding of merchandising procedures, overall company practices, and floral department policies and procedures gained through previous experience in the Floral Department. Requires the ability to judge and react to business activity.
Ability to stand for long periods oftime, walk and move rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and tum frequently. Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver plants, shrubs and other objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 60 lbs.
Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary. Must be able to use and operate related equipment and work aids such as telephones, knifes, scissors, box cutters, stem cutters, staplers, pricing guns, hot glue guns, spray paints, balloon heat sealing machines, helium tanks, hand trucks and pallet jacks.
Mental alertness required to ensure accurate completion of work activities. Requires knowledge of basic math, creative ability, and the ability to differentiate and coordinate colors and flowers. Requires a basic understanding of botany, knowledge of perishability and seasonality of products, proper product controlling and handling, safety and sanitation procedures, and department policies and procedures.
Exposure to potential hazards exists with respect to equipment and work aids necessary to perform job duties. Occasional exposure to approximately 40 degrees Fahrenheit while handling products and/or working in cooler. Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions during times when plants, shrubs and trees are displayed outdoors. Hands are frequently exposed to cold water, rose thorns, and a wide variety of plants, flowers, soil mixtures and flower arranging materials. Working conditions consist of a temperature-controlled store environment, backroom receiving and production area, and outdoor weather conditions.
