UPMC is looking for a full-time Fleet Mechanic I to support our UPMC Employee Transit Garage (Pittsburgh).
This position works Monday- Friday, 8:00a-4:00p with some flexibility. No weekends required!
Optional 4/10s once CDL with P endorsement is obtained
Minor travel required to local hospitals and parking lots.
**Purpose:**
The Fleet Mechanic I will perform minor component repair or replacement and assist with the removal , replacement, and repair of major components.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Perform the following repairs or replacements: Preventive Maintenance Service, Front End/Tandem Axle alignments, Minor electrical system repairs.
+ Identify defects in driveline, brake, electrical, cab, frame, suspension, steering, air, and related systems.
+ Pickup and delivery of vehicles.
+ Maintain work area appearance and safety.
+ Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments, as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists.
+ Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other important parts to ensure that they are in proper operating condition.
+ Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery.
+ Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
+ Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts or equipment using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
+ Test drive trucks and buses to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly.
+ Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, chassis charts, and pressure gauges.
+ Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices.
+ Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications.
+ Specialize in repairing and maintaining parts of the engine, such as fuel injection systems.
+ Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
+ A Mechanic's tool set up to drive; typically including sockets, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, and other tools for various repair and maintenance jobs on vehicles.
+ High school diploma OR equivalent required and 2 years of practical experience.
+ Completion of a technical school/vocational school preferred.
+ Practical experience in a vocational/technical school setting may count towards 2-year requirement. **Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:**
+ Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required at time of hire or within 6 months of hire.
+ CDL Passenger Endorsement required at time of hire or within 6 months of hire.
+ Commercial Driver License (CDL)
