This role is in support of Cencora's wholesale distribution services in Europe operating through our Alliance Healthcare business.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Transport Leader to join the team at Alliance Healthcare UK's new, next-generation Central Logistics Centre (CLC) in Birmingham. You will play a pivotal role in the launch of this world-class, game-changing facility. Designed with advanced automation and cutting-edge robotics, the CLC is set to redefine how Alliance Healthcare manages and delivers medical, health and beauty products to our customers across the UK.

Job Scale:

To manage all transport operations (drivers and fleet) within the company financial and operational objectives ensuring legal compliance. Enhance the brand and ensure the delivery of excellent customer service. Act as a Leader within the site, driving the correct behaviours and as a result delivering continuous improvement. Role identified as a key position in developing future senior leaders within the business.

Principal Accountabilities:

1. People Leadership:

Take responsibility for all areas of people management for direct reports, including coaching, nurturing talent, and motivating the team through effective leadership.

Manage driver rotas to ensure trained cover for absences, maintaining operational continuity.

Provide coaching and guidance to team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.

Manage teams, including those at remote locations, ensuring consistent communication and operational alignment.

Conduct performance reviews and provide timely feedback to all team members

Foster an inclusive and supportive team environment by promoting diversity, respecting individual differences, and ensuring all team members feel valued and empowered to contribute to the success of Cencora Alliance Healthcare.

2. Cost Management and Budget Control:

Ensure transport operational costs remain within budget by implementing and monitoring robust control mechanisms.

Analyse cost performance and address any variances through corrective actions to maintain financial efficiency.

Build a robust working relationship with the appointed transport finance lead.

3. Compliance and Legal Standards:

Ensure drivers comply with hours, tachograph rules, and speed limits, adhering to all legal requirements.

Maintain all vehicles to company and legislative standards, ensuring safety and reliability.

Ensure vehicles are not overloaded and only authorised vehicles are kept at the designated Operating Centre(s) when not in use.

Ensure all documentation is completed accurately and in line with statutory requirements.

4. Fleet Maintenance and Records Management:

Oversee the compilation and accuracy of all service and maintenance records to ensure compliance with legal and company standards.

Complete monthly Fleet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) by agreed deadlines, monitor performance, and address issues through remedial action plans.

Participate in internal fleet audits, ensuring any identified issues are resolved through the execution of action plans.

Manage and oversee temperature-controlled distribution operations, ensuring compliance with regulatory and operational standards.

Ensure all vehicles and processes meet the specific requirements for temperature-sensitive goods.

Manage a mixed fleet of LGVs and LCVs, including vehicles based at remote locations, ensuring they meet operational and compliance requirements.

5. Customer Service and Delivery Standards:

Ensure all customer deliveries are completed in the prescribed manner, meeting agreed service standards.

Investigate customer service issues promptly, provide feedback, and implement remedial actions to prevent recurrence.

Maintain a customer-focused approach, ensuring customer needs are prioritised and productive relationships are built and sustained.

6. Health and Safety Compliance

Lead the Health and Safety agenda for transport, ensuring the department meets all Health and Safety (H&S) requirements.

Conduct regular reviews, training, and risk assessments to mitigate potential hazards.

Ensure team members are fully aware of their H&S responsibilities and promote a culture of safety across the transport operation.

7. Continuous Improvement and Process Development

Make recommendations for improvements in processes and procedures within the area of responsibility.

Implement corporate processes and procedures in a consistent manner, ensuring alignment with organisational standards.

Work with management team members to develop a culture of continuous improvement across the Service Centre and satellite sites.

Actively seek opportunities to enhance operational efficiency and make recommendations for improvement.

8. Independent Decision-Making

Operate on own initiative as the site Fleet and Transport Manager, making informed decisions to ensure operational success.

Take ownership of transport-related challenges, resolving issues promptly and effectively.

Additional Information:

Some UK travel required, with overnight stays and attendance at meetings or conventions outside of normal business hours, including some evenings and weekends.

Full driving licence required

All people leader roles within the Central Logistics Centre will need to be “on call” for emergency orders and to participate a weekend working rota.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:

Experience of managing teams including at remote locations

Working in a highly regulated / audited working environment

Operating on own initiative as the site Fleet and Transport Manager

Leading the Health and Safety agenda for transport

Experience of temperature-controlled distribution

Strong understanding of transport operations, including compliance with legal standards such as tachograph rules, vehicle maintenance, and driver hours.

Knowledge of Health and Safety regulations and best practices within a transport environment.

Familiarity with fleet management systems and KPI reporting.

Ability to embrace and implement change to improve business performance.

Strong organisational skills to manage time, tasks, and resources effectively, ensuring deadlines and targets are met.

Analytical skills to identify issues, interpret data, and implement practical solutions.

Awareness of customer service principles and the importance of maintaining high delivery standards.

Understanding of temperature-controlled distribution requirements and standards.

Proficient in Microsoft tools including 365, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Teams

Essential Requirements:

CPC holder: A Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is essential for this role.

Proven experience in a fleet or transport management role, with a track record of maintaining compliance and operational efficiency.

Experience managing a mixed fleet of LGVs and LCVs, including vehicles based at remote locations.

Experience working in a highly regulated and audited environment, ensuring compliance with all standards.

Clear, engaging and effective communication skills to engage with team members, customers, and stakeholders - well informed on all important matters that are relevant to the role

Demonstrated success in leading teams and driving employee engagement and development.

Experience in investigating and resolving customer service issues.

Familiarity with conducting audits and implementing action plans to address identified issues.

Having the composure and ability to adapt to stressful situations and deal with emergencies or last-minute changes to schedules.
