• Evaluates raw materials and new technology introduced by R&D • Inclusion in special projects including Re-imagine platforms • Exposure to working with multi-disciplinary teams • Learns techniques to cost optimize formulations • Builds knowledge on flavor legislation • Understands how to interpret and use PX (Product Experience) data to support creative projects • Works closely with Creation, GRA, and Operations to learn how to create or duplicate flavors that meet customer requirements and are efficient to manufacture • Through shop floor experience, understands the production processes for Liquid Compounding, Powder Blending, and Spray Drying • Capable of using IT reporting tools to determine the scope of potential changes including all impacted formulas, countries, and factories • Understands broad business strategy, including core technology strengths, areas for ongoing technological development and customer segmentation • Understands the relationship between the creative process and costing decisions, product performance and constraints in flavor development • Develops an understanding of the flavor industry and IFF position vs. competition • Builds discipline and awareness on costing guidelines • Increases knowledge of markets and consumer understanding • Understands what the best-selling products on the markets are and why • Builds awareness of broad business environment and dynamics • Exposure to customer presentations/builds presentation skills (Commercial and R&D only) • Able to modify formulations to meet customer or business criteria • Manages project data for all assigned tasks/projects within IFFman • Excellent active communication on key steps within projects to project sponsors • Builds relationships with other functions, including Sales, PX, Marketing, CPD • Builds relationships with other functions (Sales, GRA, Quality, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and FAD) • Actively involved in MRC process, using new and IFF approved materials to offer IFF proprietary advantage • Spends time understanding external customers’ products and brands by listening and deliver beyond expectations • Establishes an effective client needs analysis • Builds trust and confidence with internal and external customers
Requirements:
• Graduation of IFF Flavorist School or external equivalent. 2–3 years working as a trainee within a flavor creation environment.
• Minimum entry level is a science degree (Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Life Sciences, etc.) Preferably a Master’s degree in Food Technology, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Food Engineering and/or Chemistry Engineering
In this role you will work under the instruction of creative Flavorists to support the development of new flavors for customers and introduction of new ingredients to the C&A community. Additionally, you will:
• Understand and support formulation process including accurate compounding of flavors, raw material handling and measuring physical properties
• Maintain organized laboratory conditions, manage and transfer raw materials and flavor stocks
• Prepare raw materials for evaluation
• Observe laboratory and plant safety rules and GMP’s Interface with cross-category departments including applications, sales, QC and sensory as necessary for completion of job tasks
• Support customer visits as needed Apply flavors into bases and participate in tasting and product evaluations as needed
• Understand key steps in projects from creation to application, production, and scale up Build basic understanding of C&A and R&D library/tools in IFF tool box
Required Skills:
• Strong computer skills, including: SAP, Microsoft Office, and other IFF systems as introduced and required Strong practical math skills (e.g. calculating and preparing dilutions of flavoring materials, flavor creations and applications, etc.)
• Excellent communication skills and ability to interact productively on internal/external basis
• Ability to taste and discriminate sensory properties of flavors & applications
• Ability and willingness to collaborate Fluent in English Well organized self-starter with desire to develop new skills
Job Requirements:
• Four Year Degree (BS/BA in biological or chemical science preferred) with 1-2 years of lab experience
• Alternately, a minimum of 3 years industrial laboratory or chemical industry work experience, coupled with a strong desire and ability to continue education and professional development and growth.
