A Brief Summary of This Position
The associate is expected to lay out, align, and weld metal components used in utility poles and structural assemblies. This Associate will be able to read blueprints, perform precise welds, and maintain high safety and quality standards. A strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to meet production goals are essential.
Essential Functions
Lay out, align, and weld fabricated metal components for utility/engineered support structure poles and related structures.Interpret blueprints and fit components accurately in preparation for welding.Perform structural welding tasks following established procedures and safety standards.Use hand tools and measuring devices to ensure precision and quality.Maintain a high level of accuracy and efficiency to meet production deadlines.Take ownership of tools and equipment, ensuring proper use and maintenance.Actively participate in safety programs and uphold all company safety policies and procedures.Prepare components for welding by fitting together in “ready to weld” condition.Utilize all safety devices and wear all mandatory personal protective safety equipment.Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and work both in a non temperature-controlled environment and outdoors.Safe operation of overhead cranes, jibs, smasherSafe operation of oxy fuel and various plasma cutting equipmentSubmits two (2) safety contact cards on a monthly basisOther duties as required and/or assigned.Important Details about the Role
The associate is responsible for own work.Must be able to work with other associates to complete job.Make mathematical calculations in preparing product or setting up the machinery.Read and decipher blue prints and flat sheets without assistance and use them to properly fit and weld structure.The associate has a direct impact on safety, quality, productivity, TME (total manufacturing expenses), and customer satisfaction.This position reports to the Shift SupervisorRequired Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Successful completion of a 1G weld test.Ability to read and interpret blueprints for accurate product fit-up.Proficient in basic math and measurement systemsHave proficient tape measure skills from reading, utilizing and applyingUnderstanding of quality standards and production requirements.Strong problem-solving skills with minimal supervision.Ability to work efficiently and deliver error-free results on time.Support other team members as ableHighly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED equivalent. 0-3 years of experience in an industrial welding position.The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructionsThe ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive mannerMust be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results.AWS certified welder operator qualification for both SAW and GMAW processes.Must have a high awareness for safety at all times.Educational Background

SKILL
Educational Background:
Able to clearly communicate written and verbal instructions. Proficiency in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, performs decimal conversions, and the use of tape measures daily.Job Training Skill Development:
Must be able to perform satisfactorily all functions of this position within 90 days of starting this position. Obtain valid Valmont welding certification(s) used in the position.
Decision Making:
This job requires the associate to make decisions that affect the quality of the products being manufactured. The associate will make decisions such as when to change tooling, when to make adjustments to machines, when to call for more parts. These are decisions that affect the associates own work quality and output. More complex decisions that affect the rest of the department will be made with the guidance of the lead person or supervisor.
EFFORT
Physical Effort
Operates equipment 75% of the time. Lifts, pushes, and carries material <50 lbs., 30% of the time. Standing, stooping, bending, sitting and squatting 100% of the day.
Working Conditions
The job is performed in an indoor shop environment. The temperature range can be from the summer to winter. Most operations may expose associate to some type of disagreeable working conditions (wind, cold, heat, dust, dirt, fumes, noise, vibration, water, or oil). Working conditions may vary with specific work assignments. Exposure to electrical hazards, grease, loud noises, and outside elements occur continually or regularly. Extreme care should be taken to prevent damage to equipment or department personnel in the area of operations especially when performing setups. The job requires safety glasses, hearing protection, and metatarsal safety shoes be worn at all times. The associate must be able to spend the entire work shift on their feet within the shop environment. The associate must also be able to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) for working in the production facility.
Hazards
This job requires handling metal objects some of which have sharp edges. Extreme care and awareness should be taken for all production jobs. Set up and running of equipment provides the potential for injury through slips, falls, strains, pinch points, tripping hazards, high pressure air nozzles and material handling equipment.
