Duties Description The Fish and Wildlife Technician 2 will focus on the on-the-ground implementation and monitoring of conservation strategies under the supervision of the Biologist 1 (Ecology). The Fish and Wildlife Technician 2 may supervise others depending on the level of need in the district.Duties include but are not limited to: Under the supervision of the Biologist 1 (Ecology), support and carry out on-the-ground habitat management strategies, including but not limited to native plantings, invasive species controls, fish and wildlife management activities, posting fishing and wildlife management boundaries, etc.Conduct biological surveys using various types of equipment to obtain samples of biota, water, soil, sediment, etc.Conduct invasive species surveys and management activities.Participate in flora and fauna surveys related to environmental stewardship projects and planning. Collect native seed for propagation of site-specific plant materials. Conduct aquatic surveys and collect water quality samples. Collect fish and wildlife information. Assist with new or ongoing habitat and ecological restoration efforts in the region Assist with new or ongoing climate resiliency efforts in the region Collect and enter data into regional databases, tabulate and summarize data to assist with the development of reports and presentations.Provide information on environmental stewardship to the public while in the park. Assist with the preparation of outreach materials for environmental stewardship.Coordinate and supervise teams consisting of seasonal staff, volunteers, and/or interns. Organize and host training for these teams.Assist with the development of project plans for habitat management, water quality improvement, rare species conservation, etc. Assist the Biologist 1 (Ecology) or seasonal staff with intermediate GIS tasks such as creating maps of species and their locations, invasive populations and their management recommendations, and project areas.Repair and maintain equipment, inform supervisor of any equipment replacement/procurement needs.
Minimum Qualifications his title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). * To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55b/c, candidates must meet the open-competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are: Three years of experience in fisheries, wildlife, or marine resources management; fish or wildlife propagation; a living marine resources program; or a fish, wildlife, or marine research program. Substitution: one year of college coursework including at least 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources, wildlife management, or a related field, may substitute for one year of the experience described. *For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title maybe filled via a non- competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply. At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in a NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified. Your name will be restricted from appointment from the eligible list until your position is covered in to the competitive class by action of the New York State Civil Service Commission or otherwise obtain permanent competitive status in the position. Eligible List Appointment: No current eligible list 70.1 Transfer Qualifications: One year of permanent competitive service as a Fish Culturist 1 for transfer in accordance with Section 70.1 of Civil Service Law. 55-b/c Qualifications: This position is eligible for 55b/c appointment, and candidates with 55b/c eligibility are encouraged to apply. To be eligible for a 55b/c appointment, candidate must be currently enrolled in the Civil Service 55b/c program and must meet the minimum qualifications listed above. To be considered, you must provide a copy of your letter of eligibility with your response and meet the minimum qualifications listed above.
