Summary Firefighter – Chenega / NASA Kennedy Space Center (Florida) Join a mission-driven emergency response team at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where protecting lives and property is the top priority. As a Firefighter, you’ll perform fire suppression, rescue operations, and mutual aid support for surrounding communities. This physically demanding role requires full-duty readiness and the ability to operate in advanced protective gear—including bunker gear, HazMat suits, SCBA, and harnesses—while responding to high-stakes incidents in a dynamic federal environment. Responsibilities Respond to fire alarms, vehicle accidents, and emergency situations using specialized equipment and rescue techniques. Maintain readiness of fire apparatus, tools, PPE, and station facilities through daily inspections and upkeep. Participate in ongoing training, certification programs, and emergency response exercises, including HazMat and Technical Rescue operations. Provide standby support for aircraft operations, hazardous activities, and fire prevention duties. Demonstrate knowledge of fire suppression, rescue procedures, and emergency medical care across various environments. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must possess a High School Diploma or GED and be at least 21 years of age. Required certifications: DoD (IFSAC) or Pro Board Firefighter II or Florida State Firefighter Minimum Standards; NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800. Within one year of hire: must obtain Airport Firefighter, Technical Rescue Awareness, and Hazardous Materials Operations certifications. Must meet NASA physical and psychological standards, pass drug/alcohol screenings, and maintain a clean criminal record. Must possess and maintain a valid Class E Florida driver’s license and be eligible for a security clearance.
