AngloGold Ashanti (Ghana) Limited, Obuasi Gold Mine is currently near completion of the redevelopment phase to become a modern, efficient and long-term profitable operation. The underground mining operation has been fully mechanized and designed to produce up to an average maximum of 5,000 t/day of ore mined.

We are seeking an experienced and self-motivated person to join our dedicated team as per the details below:

ROLE PURPOSE

 

The Fire and Rescue Brigadesperson is required to respond to emergency situations by operating the Company’s Fire Tender and other emergency vehicles.  The Fire and Rescue Brigadesperson is an integral part of the Emergency management Team (EMS) who would also be required to ensure emergency preparedness on both surface and underground.

 

.KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

Respond to all emergency operations on surface and underground. Safely drive the Fire Tender in response to emergency situations. Safely drive other Emergency Vehicles to and from fires or other emergencies following laws and regulations, operating pumps, aerial devices, power, and other mechanical equipment as required, keep inventory of tools and equipment on apparatus. Participate in all training sessions and emergency drills. Attend to the Control Room duties when assigned. Clean and keep the Rescue Station tidy. Organize basic firefighting training and emergency drills for employees. Perform required apparatus maintenance, cleaning duties, inventory checks and weekly inspections Respond to first aid and medical emergencies.

 

QUALIFICATION, EXPERIENCE AND TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES 

 

Qualification:

Must have a valid Driver’s License F Must have a Certificate of Competency (. Mine Rescue/Fire Certificate) – Ghana Minerals Commission. Must have a minimum of WASSCE or SSCE preferably with science background from a recognized institution.  Diploma in Engineering Science, Technical, Emergency Nursing or related field from a recognized institution will be an added advantage.  Must have a valid first Aid certificate. Must be able to drive and operate a fire tender and Ambulance. Competency and qualification in Basic Life Support will be an advantage. Knowledge and experience in Occupational Health and Safety will be an added advantage.

 

Attributes:

Physically strong, fit, and healthy. Must be disciplined. Results oriented. Must be computer literate. Must be able to work under pressure for long hours with little or no supervision.

 

Experience:

Must have worked in extractive or affiliate industry in similar or the advertised role. Must be familiar with the operation of Fire tender for a minimum of two years. Must have Three plus years working experience in Emergency Management services preferably in Extractive industry Must have understanding and working knowledge of Rescue and Recovery, Fire Fighting procedures and Gas monitoring on both Underground and Surface operations. Must be familiar with the use of vehicle extrication equipment and high angle rescue operations. Knowledge on HAZMAT is required.

 

Other Competencies

Attentive to detail Works well under pressure and occasional works on weekends. Capable of handling sensitive and confidential information. Abide by rescue brigadesperson rules and regulations.
