Job Description

AECOM is hosting an exclusive, invitation-only hiring event in Philadelphia on October 9-10, 2025. This is a great opportunity to learn and connect with AECOM for career opportunities starting Spring/Summer 2026.

The event kicks off on Thursday evening with a networking mixer from 6-8 pm, where you can hear from AECOM staff about various projects, career paths, and the company itself. You’ll also have the chance to meet other students, recent graduates, and AECOM professionals from across our business lines.

On Friday, interviews will take place at our Philadelphia office. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn about and connect with AECOM for early career opportunities.

AECOM is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Fire Protection Intern to join our team in Arlington, Virginia office. This internship offers an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of fire protection engineering while contributing to the safety of our built environment.

This position is expected to begin in Spring/Summer 2026.

Internships at AECOM offer students in undergraduate and graduate programs the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in engineering, design, and infrastructure projects that make a real-world impact. Interns work with cutting-edge technology, learn industry best practices, and collaborate with experienced professionals in a globally recognized firm. The program fosters both technical and professional skill development while providing networking opportunities that can enhance future career prospects. Additionally, AECOM’s dedication to innovation and sustainability enables interns to contribute to meaningful projects that help shape communities and the built environment.

The responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:

Assist in the design and review of fire protection systems for various building typesSupport senior engineers in conducting fire risk assessments and safety auditsHelp prepare technical reports and documentation for fire protection projectsParticipate in site visits to observe and learn about fire protection system installationsContribute to the development of fire safety plans and emergency proceduresAssist in researching and staying up-to-date with the latest fire protection technologies and regulationsCollaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure fire safety compliance in building designsSupport the team in creating and maintaining project documentation and drawings

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering and must have completed at least one of years of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications:

Basic knowledge of fire protection systems, safety codes, and standards.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).Familiarity with CAD software and fire protection engineering tools is a plus.Eagerness to learn and develop skills in fire protection engineering.
