This diversity leads us to pursue the best projects with the strong clients, empowering engineers and designers to create high-performing buildings without compromising budget or function. **Stantec is seeking a Canadian Fire Protection Design Lead across Canada. This position can be located out of any Stantec Canadian location with a Buildings presence.** The successful candidate will lead varied complex fire protection systems design projects in a multidisciplinary setting across the country and will work alongside our North American Fire Protection Discipline Leader to lead, support, mentor, and grow the Fire Protection team across Canada. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with our Fire Protection practitioners across our global practice to share knowledge and advance the discipline in the industry. Your main tasks as a senior contributor to our Fire Protection practice will be to work independently and with our Canadian fire protection designers to deliver key projects within established budgets and deadlines. This will include projects of various sizes in the field of fire protection, including complex water, water mist, foam, gas, and other unique system designs for major clients in the defence, institutional, commercial, industrial, and transportation sectors. You are responsible for assisting with the development and growth of a nationwide fire protection engineering group equipped with up-to-date engineering and design tools and innovations, technical and supervisory capabilities and operating procedures to successfully and efficiently execute projects and consulting services resulting in client satisfaction and on-time delivery. **Your Key Responsibilities** + Lead Engineer overseeing the design of building mechanical fire protection systems. + Lead conversations with clients and internal design staff with respect to fire protection concept designs and recommendations. + Lead project coordination meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractors, subcontractors, and vendors. + Work with the fire protection design team to prepare plans, hydraulic calculations, specifications, and estimates based on NFPA standards. + Conduct expert assessments in the field of fire protection and produce reports. + Oversee the quality of work on site, conduct visits, field surveys and participate in site meetings with clients and contractors as required. + Prepare and present technical reports and presentations. + Engage in design development through sketches, electronic models, diagrams and other formats. + Provide direct supervision to assigned staff; develop staff skills and abilities by providing guidance and mentoring to strengthen technical abilities. + Conduct quality assurance and quality control on own projects and projects of peers. + Assist in the development of new standards and specifications for the fire engineering group. + Develop project scope, budget, and design approach for projects of varying complexity. + Assist with Business Development activities, including proposal development, presentations. + Oversee and manage multiple concurrent projects. **Your Capabilities and Credentials** + Requisite knowledge, interpretation, and application of Building codes and NFPA standards. Familiarity with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) is an asset. + Knowledge of HydraCalc software + Ability to perform and interpret hydraulic calculations. + Strong understanding of fire safety engineering principals + Possess excellent analytical, problem-solving, and analytical skills. problem-solving and priority setting. + Strong knowledge of fire suppression and fire alarm systems, both design and commissioning are an asset. + Strong technical writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills. + Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD. + Ability to work and communicate in French is an asset. + Experience with CFD modeling software (i.e. FDS, ASCOS) is an asset. **Education and Experience** Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Fire Protection Engineering or other relevant training, with a minimum of 10 years of experience in fire protection systems design. Masters in Fire Protection preferred but not required. Registered as a Professional Engineer in your province of residence. Ability to obtain your license in all Canadian provinces and territories. _Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
