Amazon Finance Operations is seeking a highly skilled UK Payroll Specialist with 7 to 10 years of hands-on, end-to-end processing experience to oversee and execute our UK payroll operations. This role focuses heavily on ensuring absolute tax accuracy, statutory compliance, and rigorous quality control. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in HMRC regulations, capable of managing complex payroll cycles while driving process improvements and validation frameworks i.e. establish, perform, and maintain robust pre- and post-payroll audit frameworks (e.g., Leaver Validations, Gross-to-Net variance checks) to catch and correct anomalies before payroll closure.

Key Responsibilities:
• Manage complex payroll inputs including starters, leavers, statutory absences (SSP, SMP, SPP), court orders, and student loans for large employee counts.
• End-to-End RTI Management: Own the timely compilation, validation, and submission of Full Payment Submissions (FPS) and Employer Payment Summary (EPS) files to HMRC on or before every pay day.
• Annual Year-End Close: Lead the complete year-end payroll process, ensuring the accurate generation, verification, and statutory distribution of employee P60 forms within the legal deadline.
• Benefits & Expense Reporting: Manage the annual P11D and P11D(b) process, calculating Class 1A National Insurance contributions and submitting accurate filings for employee expenses and benefits-in-kind.
• PSA Settlement Administration: Formulate, calculate, and submit the annual PAYE Settlement Agreement (PSA) to report and pay tax on minor, irregular, or impracticable expenses and benefits on behalf of employees.
• Tax Code Directives: Oversee the daily download, validation, and implementation of HMRC tax code changes via electronic P6 notices, ensuring immediate operational application.
• HMRC Liaison: Act as the primary technical point of contact for HMRC, managing all inquiries, audits, and formal correspondence professionally.
• Dispute & Penalty Resolution: Investigate, build defense cases for, and resolve any HMRC tax penalties, interest charges, or late-filing notices by identifying root causes and demonstrating compliance.
• Funding & Reconciliations: Monitor and manage the employer's HMRC online account, reconciling liabilities against payments and reclaiming statutory funding (like SMP/SPP overrides) where applicable.
• Permanent Workplace Assessment: Audit and review employee work arrangements against HMRC’s "Permanent Workplace" and 24-month temporary workplace rules to ensure correct tax and National Insurance treatment for travel and subsistence expenses.
Certification: CIPP (Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals) qualification or equivalent is highly desirable.
