Job Description
This position supports the Financial Reporting and Compliance Manager in all aspects of financial reporting and requires a high level of accounting experience and knowledge. The position involves performing complex and varied financial operations in accordance with established policies and practices, including the preparation, analysis, reconciliation, and verification of financial records. The role will assist with researching, analyzing, interpreting, and implementing new accounting pronouncements and best practices that impact financial processes.
Responsibilities
Prepare, analyze, reconcile, and verify financial records.Research, analyze, interpret, and implement new accounting pronouncements and best practices.Communicate effectively with internal and external constituents.Identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.Apply accounting principles and methods to a variety of complex fiscal needs.Assemble, analyze, reconcile, and interpret financial data.Exercise judgment and interpret administrative policies and procedures.Adhere strictly to deadlines for accurate and timely completion of reconciliations, schedules, financial reports, and compliance-related tasks.Essential Skills
Comprehensive knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices.Experience with accounting software, particularly in report writing and analysis.Effective oral and written communication techniques.Proficiency in Excel, including creating pivot tables and using vlookups.Experience with journal entries, debits/credits, and creating financial reports.Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting.Experience in financial reporting to the government.Experience with Banner ERP.Ability to work well in a team environment and collaborate with team members and the larger finance office.Strong initiative.Work Environment
The role operates in a standard office environment, working Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. The position may offer the opportunity to transition to a permanent role with a large local university. Collaboration with a team of two in financial reporting and occasional work with the larger finance office is expected.

Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Norfolk, VA.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $33.00 - $38.47/hr.
