Job Summary:
The Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Financial Operations Generalist 1 – Accountant Paraprofessional to join our facility team.
In this role, you will perform a variety of paraprofessional accounting and fiscal control functions under direct supervision. These responsibilities may include accounts payable and receivable, payroll preparation, budget tracking, and general ledger work that supports the financial operations of a secure facility. Your work ensures accuracy, compliance, and fiscal responsibility, directly contributing to DJJ’s mission to serve Georgia’s youth and communities with integrity.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Reconcile and balance accounting records, statements, journals, ledgers, and reports
+ Collect and process fees, disburse payments, and post to correct accounts
+ Maintain organized financial files and documentation
+ Monitor department budgets and identify/report variances
+ Compile and prepare financial reports in accordance with GAAP
+ Perform billing, clerical, and claims processing duties
+ Respond to routine accounting inquiries and resolve discrepancies
+ Prepare documentation and materials for audits
+ Process transactions (A/P, A/R, payroll, invoicing) in ledger or system
+ Communicate professionally with banks, vendors, auditors, and government entities
+ Track account activity and resolve billing questions
Minimum Qualifications:
+ High school diploma or GED AND
+ Two (2) years of experience in accounting or fiscal operations
OR
+ One (1) year of experience at the lower-level Accounting Technician (FIT019) or equivalent
+ Preferred Qualifications:
Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and possess the following will receive strong preference:
+ Proficiency with PeopleSoft Financials
+ Experience in accounts payable and receivable
+ Familiarity with State of Georgia accounting practices
+ Two (2) or more years of experience creating requisitions and processing purchase orders
+ Experience working with NIGP codes and TeamWorks
+ Eligibility to receive and reconcile a State Procurement Card (P-Card)
