**Job Summary and Qualifications**
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for collecting financial and insurance information from pre-transplant patients, verifying coverage, and obtaining required pre-certifications. Communicates with insurance case managers. Counsels patients on financial issues surrounding the transplant. Works closely with Transplant Social Worker. Communicates patient’s financial status with transplant team and others involved in the transplant process.
POPULATION SERVED:
All employees, staff of LPMC in both clinical and non-clinical departments, including patient/families, physicians, volunteers, agency, contract, students and the community served.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
+ Obtains appropriate information and relevant insurance information on patient healthcare coverage.
+ Verifies benefits from patient insurance.
+ Determines if pre-certification is required for evaluation, transplant admission and/or follow-up care and obtains as necessary
+ Annually reviews patient insurance coverage via communication with patient, dialysis center, and/or insurance company
+ Communicates with insurance case manager regarding throughout the transplant process including the pre-certification process and provides documentation as necessary.
+ At the time of admission, informs business office of pre-certification information.
+ Communicates financial concerns to the Multidisciplinary Care Team and others as identified throughout the transplant process
+ Participates in multidisciplinary care team planning and collaboration including selection committee
+ Informs managed care department of new managed care patients that may require special contracting prior to evaluation and/or transplantation.
+ Seeks assistance for complex cases from Transplant Social Worker.
+ Meets with each pre-transplant patient to review financial and insurance coverage
+ Counsels patients on financial issues and advises them on planning for the transplant.
+ Refers patients to the social worker as needed for financial assistance.
+ Participates in organ donation and transplant awareness initiatives.
+ Employee’s conduct must reflect the Company’s values and a commitment to the Code of Conduct ethics and compliance program.
+ Verify Kidney Acquisition Cost Center charges and claims for appropriateness on a monthly basis.
+ Complete patient admission process.
+ Update appointment scheduler daily.
+ Enter E/M charges into the meditech system as appropriate.
+ Other duties as assigned.
**What qualifications you will need:**
+ High School Graduate / GED
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
+ High school diploma or equivalent required; minimum of 2 years of college, strong interpersonal and organizational skills preferred
PREFERRED EDUCATION, LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
+ Experience with End-Stage Renal Disease population. Experience with patient registration, financial counseling or medical insurance; computer skills preferred
