The Clayfield is a new 102-room luxury boutique hotel opening in Niagara-on-the-Lake and part of the Unbound Collection by Hyatt. Operated by Urgo Hotels & Resorts Canada, The Clayfield will deliver a highly personalized, refined guest experience grounded in calm luxury, craftsmanship, and a strong sense of place.
The Financial Controller is responsible for the overall financial management and accounting operations of the hotel, ensuring accuracy, discipline, and transparency across all financial activities. Reporting to the General Manager, this role oversees day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, and internal controls, while supporting operational decision-making and overall hotel performance.
This position will appeal to a detail-oriented finance leader who values ownership, structure, and the opportunity to build strong financial systems in a pre-opening environment.
What You’ll Do
Support all pre-opening financial setup, including systems, chart of accounts, banking structure, and financial workflows Oversee all hotel accounting functions including accounts payable, receivable, payroll coordination, general ledger, and financial reporting Prepare monthly financial statements, forecasts, and annual budgets, maintaining accurate and transparent P&L reporting Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting, ensuring alignment with hotel operations and ownership expectations Act as a key business partner to the General Manager and department leaders, providing financial insight to support operational decision-making Establish and enforce internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard assets and ensure compliance Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and daily cash positioning for the property Oversee billing, collections, and credit processes, and ensure accurate revenue reporting through night audit oversight and balance sheet reconciliations Manage all brand-related financial obligations, including fees, reporting, and compliance requirementsWhat You’ll Bring
5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience within a hotel or hospitality environment Strong understanding of hotel financial operations, including revenue flows, departmental expenses, and reporting structures Experience with hotel systems such as Opera, POS systems, and accounting platforms High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail, with a strong sense of ownership over financial results Strong leadership and communication skills with a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach Ability to translate financial data into clear insights for operational teams and support performance-driven decision-making Comfort working in a pre-opening environment where systems and processes are being established, with a proactive and structured mindset Professional judgment, integrity, and discretion in handling financial matters, with a commitment to maintaining strong controls and financial standards Hands-on approach with the ability to balance strategic thinking and day-to-day executionWhy Join Us
