Financial Analyst (Hybrid Schedule)

This Financial Analyst position resides within the Kinder Morgan IT Department, reporting to the IT Administration Manager.  The successful candidate will be working for one of the largest energy infrastructure companies in North America and will be responsible for the IT department's accounting and planning functions.  Our department develops and supports IT solutions for the business that operates approximately 79,000 miles of natural gas, gasoline, crude oil, and carbon dioxide (CO2) pipelines and over 130 terminals to store and handle various chemicals and other products.

 

Primary purpose:

The Financial Analyst role includes various accounting and financial responsibilities supporting the Information Technology department. The responsibilities include forecasting, budgeting, general accounting, and monthly/quarterly reporting and analysis. A strong understanding of the financial concept and analytical skills are required to deliver timely and accurate information for strategic and tactical decision-making support.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

Provide timely and accurate financial information.Coordinate and prepare capital and expense forecast updates.Coordinate and submit the monthly accruals.Monitor the monthly accounting close process.Prepare Telecom account receivable invoices and track payments.Prepare and report monthly financial results, including headcount analysis, labor/non-labor expense, and capital.Analyze monthly financial results and provide variance explanations for earnings reports.Coordinate the quarterly inflation analysis and cash management tasks.Prepare financial data for the Quarterly Area Review and Semi-Annual Review.Coordinate and prepare the Annual Budget processes and reviews (starting in May and proceeding through Oct).Interface with all levels of management to obtain data and information necessary to complete duties.Knowledgeable of AFEs (Authorization for Expenditure), primarily for the IT department.Liaison between Corporate Accounting and Planning Groups and IT Department. Assist with amortization coding and expense reports into A/P System, as needed.Handle financial requests, backfill software asset management and work on special projects as required.

Bachelors Degree in business related field, preferably Accounting or Finance.

Experience / specific knowledge:

3-5 years' experience in accounting or financial analysis and planning.Extensive experience in performing detailed financial variance analysis.Extensive experience managing both expense and capital budgetsExperience in computerized accounting systems, financial modeling, budgets, operations analysis, and management reporting.Detailed understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), financial statements, and the accounting process.Advanced Excel skills.Ability to work independently to understand, design, and create complex models and reports is essential.Must have the skills to communicate effectively, clearly, and concisely in both oral and written form.Ability to handle, prioritize, and execute multiple tasks.Must possess problem-solving skills and the ability to develop solutions.Critical thinking, understanding what is in the numbers and how they interrelate.Must exhibit professionalism and commitment to company values.Must be able to work with a team, take direction from management, meet deadlines, be detail-oriented, and be committed to producing a quality product.Must be able to work under intense time pressure with multiple deadlines and changing priorities and effectively interface with other financial personnel throughout Kinder Morgan.Quick to assume responsibilities; must possess strong organizational skills.Must be flexible and able to work overtime as required.

Above the minimum requirements, not required but advantageous in this position:
