Job Title: Senior Financial Analyst

Job Description

The Senior Financial Analyst delivers advanced financial analysis and reporting across various projects, deferred revenue contracts, and other specialized business areas. This role performs complex financial modeling, evaluates project and contract performance, and supports strategic and operational decision-making through accurate, timely, and insightful financial reporting. The position offers exposure to complex, high-value industrial projects across various business cycles, with a clear pathway to assume a future leadership role as the current manager plans for retirement in approximately seven years.

Responsibilities

Manage revenue recognition and cost allocation for projects, ensuring accurate tracking of financial results.Perform forecasting, budgeting, and account reconciliations to support project and business performance.Allocate project costs and maintain detailed records to ensure financial accuracy and transparency.Apply percent-complete accounting for financial reporting on most contracts as the basis for deferred revenue recognition.Analyze each contract, support detailed variance explanations, and record financial results based on contract-specific percent-complete rates.Prepare and analyze industry-based contract reporting, including detailed variance analysis and explanations.Manage gross profit bookings, ensuring consistency and alignment between system outputs and financial reporting.Perform balance sheet reconciliations and analytical reviews, including full sub-ledger to general ledger reconciliations for management review.Develop sophisticated, ad hoc financial models to support business decisions.Perform advanced financial analysis, including what-if scenarios to forecast timing of expenditures and their impact on revenue recognition and overall contract gross profit.Identify opportunities for operational and financial performance improvement and communicate recommendations to stakeholders.Support financial reporting and updates for contracts and other business units, ensuring accuracy and clarity.Prepare executive-level presentations and reporting packages for Senior leadership.Manage customer rebate reporting and recovery processes to ensure timely and accurate settlements.Support internal and external audits and ensure compliance with financial policies, standards, and accuracy requirements.Ensure adherence to all financial policies and legislative requirements related to accurate financial reporting.Ensure financial analysis and recommendations are well supported and grounded in data.Maintain positive working relationships across the organization to ensure alignment with strategic goals.Support and potentially mentor junior analysts as needed, contributing to team development.Collaborate closely with non-financial stakeholders to explain financial results, commercial impacts, and business outcomes.Work independently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, particularly around month-end and reporting cycles, while demonstrating strong ownership and reliability.

Essential Skills

Minimum of 4–6 years of experience in an analytical role within finance or business accounting, with responsibility for balance sheets, reconciliations, financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting.Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics.Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate financial results into business impact.Proficiency in Microsoft Office with advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookup functions, and working with large data sets.Experience in financial analysis, financial reporting, and reconciliation across multiple entities.Experience working with intercompany accounting involving three or more entities.Experience working with both U.S. and Canadian currency.Knowledge of revenue recognition and contract analysis, including deferred revenue contracts and percent-complete assessments.Demonstrated ability to perform financial modeling to support business decisions.Self-motivated with strong attention to detail, especially when working with many different codes where accuracy is critical.Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.Excellent organizational and time-management capabilities, with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Professional demeanor and strong learning orientation, with a focus on continuous improvement.Team-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively with peers and business leaders.Customer-focused approach, building strong relationships and delivering customer-centric solutions.Ability to drive results by creating urgency, setting priorities, and executing plans that support organizational performance and strategic outcomes.Courage to address challenging situations directly, resolve conflict constructively, and communicate effectively to drive change.Ability to work independently with minimal oversight while maintaining high standards of accuracy and reliability.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Professional designation such as CPA, CGA, CMA, CA, CFA, or an MBA.Experience in manufacturing, industrial services, or heavy equipment industries.Exposure to dealership or aftermarket business models.Experience with ERP environments such as SAP, D365, Oracle, or similar systems.Knowledge of revenue recognition under U.S. GAAP, SOX, and IFRS 15.Experience with deferred revenue contracts, including assessing actual and forecasted items to determine percent complete.Proficiency in Power BI for reporting and analysis.Prior experience supporting or mentoring junior analysts.Commercial mindset with a strong understanding of how financial decisions impact business outcomes and the ability to communicate this effectively to stakeholders.

Work Environment

This role is primarily office-based with a hybrid work structure available once training is completed, typically allowing a balanced in-office and remote schedule. The position involves a 37.5-hour work week, with some fluctuation around month-end and reporting cycles to meet critical deadlines. The environment emphasizes strong collaboration with non-financial stakeholders and offers exposure to complex, high-value industrial projects. The culture supports minimal micromanagement, with success driven by ownership, reliability, and a high level of independence.
