This role supports the global Operating Expense (OpEx) teams, including General OpEx, Marketing expenses and Compensation and Benefits.
The OpEx space offers great opportunities to learn about Amazon’s broad landscape due to vast impact of OpEx. This role will lead initiatives across OpEx teams and business launches. This is a great time to join the team as there are many exciting projects involving CFO/VP goals in the pipeline. You will have the opportunity to influence the overall vision and strategy to automate certain OpEx tech debt that may require teams to build new systems.
The role requires collaboration with a wide variety of tech teams FinTech, AFFS, Compensation and Benefits, Marketing etc, global Accounting OpEx teams, and partner with tax, governance and compliance, treasury, finance, on a regular basis. This role will also have the ability to influence the tech teams to prioritize dedicated resources for automation, and the tech designs as these automations are developed. This means high visibility with leadership in the business and accounting to solve unique problems that mostly stem from Amazon’s constantly changing environment and upgrading legacy systems to scale with the business.
Projects range in size from small to extra-large in size, with an average project life cycle spanning approximately six to nine months, and can have significant net new requirements based on the countries involved and/or because the functionality being built needs to span multiple technology stacks and countries. This role will be expected to make complicated risk-based judgements and influence many stakeholders to achieve alignment by demonstrating a deep understanding of Amazon's legal entity structure and operational processes, complex accounting concepts, and systems across the ordering, marketplace, inventory, payments and financial ledger platforms.
Key job responsibilities
Strategic Partnership and Influence:
• Collaborate with various tech teams including FinTech, AFFS, Payroll, and Marketing and other teams to prioritize resources for automation initiatives.
• Contribute to the overall vision and strategy to automate OpEx processes, playing a pivotal role in solving unique challenges inherent in Amazon’s dynamic environment.
Program Ownership and Management:
• Develop SME knowledge in domain(s) Compensation and Benefits, Marketing and OpEx etc by deep diving into the business models, systems and transaction flows.
• Lead and own the accounting workstream for launches, ensuring clear workback plans and identifying potential risks and challenges.
• Manage, track, and spearhead initiatives focused on tech debt reduction and automation, influencing prioritization and driving delivery of complex tech solutions.
• Independently manage projects within the OpEx domain, facilitating detailed design discussions and ensuring alignment with overarching company objectives.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams globally, fostering strong communication channels and enhancing internal processes and controls.
