Job Title Financial Accountant I Agency Texas A&M University Department UAS University Accounting Services Proposed Minimum Salary Commensurate Job Location College Station, Texas Job Type Staff Job Description A Glimpse of the Job The Financial Accountant I is responsible for performing entry-level professional accounting tasks and providing technical expertise at a university level. Essential Duties/Tasks: + Research and Analysis - Research discrepancies and reports findings. Identifies, investigates, and resolves outstanding reconciling items through journal entries, meetings, correspondence, identifying corrections, and following up. Audits accounting and financial documents for accuracy and completeness. + Compliance and Procedures - Assures compliance with standards, policies and procedures. Provides technical assistance regarding accounting procedures and answers general accounting questions. + Data Entry - Records journal entries into FAMIS and USAS. + Reconciliations - Prepares and analyzes financial transactions. Prepares and analyzes reconciliations for general ledger accounts, bank accounts, and state bank accounts. Preferred Qualifications + Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. + Accounting experience in a business office. + Experience in higher education. + Working knowledge of database programs. + Knowledge of reconciliations. + Familiarity with FAMIS, USAS, and the TAMU environment. + Practical knowledge of governmental and higher education operations. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities + Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet programs. + Excellent oral and written communication; customer service and problem-solving skills. + Ability to comprehend and apply rules and regulations in a complex environment. + Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Other Requirements and Factors: + This position is security sensitive. + This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures. + All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.
